Not sure what to do here. I'll look at this again.

Now on this, you have to fret with all your fingers with each finger at the appopriate frets, and while moving one, you have to keep the others in their place still pushing the frets. After the moving one is on its place, you'll move other one. One finger in the air at a given time... On the video, when you are on lower strings sometimes your middle finger leaves its appopriate fret when you should keep it there biggrin.gif that was all laugh.gif

Let me know what you think of the Losfer Words stuff so far. Did you want me to do the solo on that? Or just rhythm?

Also, do I need to post videos every day? If not, how often do you want to see/hear how I'm doing?

Losfer Words video is great man, just you hook up your thumb over the fretboard unnecessarily, try to anchor your thumb behind the fretboard, this improves your finger reach greately. Hooking your thumb has its advantages too, when playing lots of bends and vibrato, this posture gives you power but here we dont need it, it becomes more of a disadventage than an adventage.

On that song our real target is to play all the leads and rhythm tracks, but I suggest you to play solo parts too especially parts that you can play when you are working slower. I seriously think that you can play half of the solo because its not very fast.

About videos, I dont know how long it takes you to shoot a clip, if its less than few minutes, I want you to take a compilation movie in daily basis in the end of every training hour to show your progress in every fronts. That way, if you make a mistake while training and I see it in the video, all you would loose is only 10 mins of training.

Overall you are doing great man, you apply immediately my suggestions and that is perfect. A little addendum, you told me you were ok in music theory, for the next time I suggest you to make a list of your strong and weak points, so that I can try to help you on that subject too. You can find a list of topics on Andrew's Theory Lesson board. As these are theoretical subjects, you can check them out in your freetime at work, or anywhere you have time.

Keep up the great work Man! laugh.gif

Cheers!

So after practicing the different things, take a video that has all of them in it? Running through the finger independence exercise once, then Losfer Words, Then Sanitarium, etc?

Yeah man, it doesnt have to be all in one take, but multiple scenes in one video file biggrin.gif And you can include a speaking part like you did when you had some problems on your first try on strumming arpeggio exercise, trying to explain where you think you had problems etc. Its not a obligation, but you may do it.. biggrin.gif

Finger Independence exercises has 5 parts at total, so we will try to nail 1 video in two days.

I understand how scales are constructed. Chords. Harmonizing the scales. The concept behind Modes, etc. But I struggle in applying them.

Meaning I could give you the notes of any major/minor scale & all the modes of it, but I’d have to sit down and work it out on paper.

Same with the circle of fifths. I understand it but I cant use it in my head. I need to work it out on paper.

The reasoning is simple. I have read about this stuff but never really had to USE it in playing.

Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense buddy, you never needed to apply your theory knowledge on your playing. Well we'll see what we can do about that.

What I wanted to say about finger independence exercises, you should try to play flawlessly these exercises and for one video, you mustn't exceed two days of training, after two days of work on Finger Independence I for example, you should play it flawlessly and comfortably, for after that period I will ask you to add it to your warmup list.

I follow.

For the exercise - https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...independence-I/ - I'm confused. The video looks like he is picking 2 strings at once. 1 with the pick and 1 with a finger. But the tab doesnt show that....

Yeah it seems that way, but he actually is picking only one string, the string of the finger he just moved, or the string he moved the finger from. something like this:

E|--|--|--|--|
B|--|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|--|
E|1-|2-|3-|4-|
-
when he does this:
-
E|--|--|--|--|
B|--|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|1-|--|--|--|
E|--|2-|3-|4-|
-
he is picking the A string for example,
-
E|--|--|--|--|
B|--|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|--|
E|1-|2-|3-|4-|
-
and when he does this:
-
E|--|--|--|--|
B|--|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|4-|
E|1-|2-|3-|--|
-
he is picking the E string...
-
Similar to these above,
E|1-|2-|3-|4-|
B|--|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|--|
E|--|--|--|--|
-
when he does this:
-
E|--|2-|3-|4-|
B|1-|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|--|
E|--|--|--|--|
-
he is picking the B string for example,
-
E|1-|2-|3-|4-|
B|--|--|--|--|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|--|
E|--|--|--|--|
-
when he does this:
-
E|1-|2-|3-|--|
B|--|--|--|4-|
G|--|--|--|--|
D|--|--|--|--|
A|--|--|--|--|
E|--|--|--|--|
-
-
he is picking the high E string...
-

Ok?

Alright then... After spending most of the night trying to make my camera work right I accomplished almost nothing....

Here is a quick video of just strumming the chords from the strumming/arpeggio lesson. I did it at 60bpm.

Then I did most of the finger independence I exercise at 80. I quit where I dont have the shape down... Its obvious.

I did another take of Losfer Words but the camer afps/lag issue is killing it. I think I figured out how to solve it. But I cant get Sonar to export it as anything that I can see. I get a black screen and good audio...

This is what I didnt want... Time spent monkeying with this crap. I've burned 2+ hours on the technology not working in a way that makes sense to me.....

Anyway.... Time for bed.

Man I am sorry to hear that, burn that damn cam man!

Strumming Chords video was good overall, you had problems with some shapes, and had some timing issues, that may be because you spend so much time with you cam that you couldnt concentrate on you exercise. Because some parts of you previous strumming arpeggio was better.

On the other hand, I see you are getting better in finger independence exercises, and I understood your problem there, the problem is not you or your playing, the problem is the exercise you are trying to do. You should try to work on these exercises:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...independence-I/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ndependence-II/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...dependence-III/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ndependence-IV/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...independence-V/

these are the exercises I was talking about laugh.gif

about that cam, Man seriously I dont know what we will do about it, we have a dilemma here, if you dont record videos of your playing, you wont waste time and work better but I wont be able to see your playing and warn you about your mistakes... And if you try to record it, it takes a lot of time, I am not sure how to do this....

Can you record your audio with your pc? If we have a sync problem, then maybe you could record audio with your pc and video with your cam, so in windows movie maker you could select you line for audio input, and your 9800 for video input... And after the work is done, if there is still a problem of sync, you can move your audio track a few ms forward or back to put it in the right place...

cheers

Can

I'll keep working on this. I have to. Its frustrating but I need a good recording solution for all GMC stuff. Not just our month. So yeah, frustrating or not I have to get it done. I did find a way to get the sync to work. I found the settings to up the FPS of the camera. I The problem before is its not recording enough to keep in time with the audio.

I did get that fixed. I just need another lamp in my room for more light now due to speeding up the shutter speed of the webcam. Its much darker. But its in sync. The new problem is exporting the sync'd up video/audio from Sonar.

I'm working on it. I'll come up with something. I'll try movie maker next.

That is the exercise I am doing. The video isnt like the tab. Look at the tab. Bottom page 2 of the GP tab. Is where the 2 finger one starts. Its not like the video. The tab has each not being picked separately. One after another just like the 1 finger part.

ok. better video coming shortly. Gotta upload it at work, no time here.

The sync is MUCH better. But the quality is a bit lower. Its rushed so the playing has errors. Waymore than when I am concentrating onplaying, not producing a video. Let me know if its good enough for you to see what you need to see, or if I need to improve it more.

Coming in an hour or so....

Ok buddy, looking forward to it.

Now I am checking the gp files for the exercise, it is really frustrating to have a GP file that differs from what you see in video...

cya until then...

Man, what a shame! these GP files are wrong. All wrong. These are written not as tabs, but as finger positions!!! So what you are hearing from GP file is not correct. the right tab should be something like this:

----8---7---6---5-------------------------------------
-----------------------8--7---6---5-------------------
---------------------------------------8---7---6---5--
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
etc.

that means you keep your fingers in the appopriate places, you move your pinky to upper 8th fret on the B string but you keep pick the 7th fret on high E then, you move your ring next to the pinky and keep playing in 6th fret on E than you move your middle finger to B string on the fret 6, play the 5th fret on E then you move your index finger up next to others on B string, you play the 8th fret on B then you take your pinky up to the 8th fret on G, still play the 7th fret on B than you take your ring next to it etc... This is how it should be played...

But actually you were working on something that is far more harder than the one above, so it is not a total loss laugh.gif

Later

Here is the test video from this morning. THis is just a test of sync and quality, is it good enough for what we are doing. I can zoom in if that helps. Position my camera better, etc....

I'm getting confused.... What you are writing doesnt match the tab above it.

Do you mean this?

----8---7---6---5--------7---6---5-----------6---5--------------5------------------------
-----------------------8--------------8---7-----------8---7---6--------8---7---6---5-----
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keeping all 4 fingers down at all times?
