Hi every one I am a little bit late to show up myself in this GMC forum. My story is not too long. I am Burmese guy living in Thailand . Even Though music is nothing relationship with my family but I love music especially on guitar. I have been playing acoustic guitar about 5 years ago. In the mid years 2013 I have found out that some of the acoustic guitarists they also play electric guitar very well. But me I have 5 years of basic experience I could not play anything on the electric guitar. So I thinking about myself why I am not give a try on electric guitar. That why I came here. I have been taking a few lessons on GMC and trying to make recording now. I feel that I got connection with electric guitar only in a few month. Thanks GMC members and insructor Cosmin Lupu who letting me know that there is such a nice forum that may improve my learning to the next level.

That must be an amazing feeling - when you can use skills from another instrument (although closely related) to make quick progress!

If you let us know about your general or specific goals/problems and we might be able to speed up your learning even more.

Welcome again!

Welcome to the forum Pai! smile.gif

I also come from the family which doesn't have many musicians if any other than me, so I'm breaking the ice smile.gif
Having the acoustic guitar experience will certainly help with getting started with electric guitar and its good you are already making progress. What kind of music do you enjoy playing on the electric guitar?

Hi instructor Kriistofer Dahl,

Thank you for your kindly asking me about my goals/problems.
My goal is to be a solo guitarist and the problem now I am facing is my left hand pinky finger it doesn't work well when I try to play fast. May I ask you some advises which kind of lessons should I take to work out my pinky finger well?

Thanks
Pai

Any exercise which involves the pinky will work - however:

The reason people often have problems with the pinky, it because it belongs to the B team whereas the other fingers belong to the A team. This means that the pinky does everything really bad, compared to the other fingers.

So far no news.

The problem arises when the pinky gets to do the same exercises as the rest of the hand. Because it never gets to practice on a level that's comfortable for it - it never gets to improve. It's just like a guitarist who practices at a level that is too fast for him, he will just get worse and worse.

The pinky is not as skilled as you other fingers and therefore you need to give it easier exercises, and most importantly practice much slower than you would with your other fingers.

So having said this - you can take any exercise you think is fun and apply it to the pinky. For example:

-8-5-8-5---------
---------8-5-8-5-
-----------------
-----------------
-----------------
-----------------

(using index finger and pinky)

Play this one as 8th notes with a metronome, and the better you get at it - the less picking you should use. I don't use any picking at all for this kind of exercise. This way I only focus on developing my left hand ability.

Please let me know if this makes sense? ALso let me know if I used terminology you are not familiar with (8th notes, metronome etc) - and I can explain those in depth.

Hello Pai! Welcome to GMC! Here you will find all the needed stuff to take your playing to a new level. Please be sure to check out beginners series in order to start working on the basic stuff which is very important:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lessonser...eginner-Course/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lessonser...ginners-Corner/

About the problem with Pinky, yeah, we all hate that finger! hahaha but practice is the key to make it work. Pinky is not very independent and this can be noted just moving your ring finger, and noticing that pinky moves a bit too. The problem becomes bigger if you just try to move your pinky.... do it and check what happens with your ring... does he moves too? mad.gif

There are many exercises for fingers independence that you should practice every day to work be able to control more each finger when you are playing. Check these lessons:
