Hey i'm new here i'm trying the beginner sweeping lesson ,
http://www2.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-gui...picking-lesson/

when I try and get faster the sweep turns more into a chord with a hammer on , how do i fix this and get my speed up?

First of all, sweeping is a very hard technique, which takes months and years to fully master, so don't lose your hope if you can't manage those uber clean and uber fast sweeps after a month or two.

Then, the answer to your question. You'll must mute the strings you just played with your right hand palm, or left hand fingers or whatever you find most comfortable. Starting at a very slow tempo and be patient and build up speed slowly but steady helps a lot - so don't rush into it and play over your head, because it will make you're sweeping sloppy and dirty, which will be harder to correct later, than just take your time now and get it tight from the start.

I'm no master of sweeping myself, just started out practicing on it, but as far as I know, that's what you have to do to be a truly master of sweeps some day smile.gif

Good luck!

Maybe you shouldn't take my advice too much since I can sweep but I'm no Jeff Loomis.

I can't watch the lesson since I'm at school but, I'd say do an arpeggio where you don't have to roll your fingers really really slow, that way you can get your finger/picking hand coordination down. I used this one when I started out (and I still like to play it...maybe too much haha)

------12h15h12----
---13-----------13--
12-----------------12
----------------------
----------------------
----------------------

Then try this for a while until yoiu get it.
------------12----------
---------13---13-------
------12--------12-----
---14-------------14---
15------------------15-
-------------------------

Then I like to combine them

------------12h15h12----------
---------13-----------13-------
------12----------------12-----
---14---------------------14---
15--------------------------15-
--------------------------------

Now, I'm in NO WAY an instructor I'm just saying how I learned it. I find finger rolling is more difficult than arpeggios like this. So if you are in any way like me I'd say get those down then work on finger rolling apreggios. But anyway that's how I got my hand synchronization and I hope I helped or at least didn't hurt XD
