That's very cool. To be able to have a biz that is second generation. Also very cool that your pop still works the machines at 82! Even half a day is pretty darn amazing.

BEN: you've got two great Ibbys for sure. i had the 3570z for a while and just loved it. I got offered a lot for it and took the offer but I should have just kept it! It's one of the few six stringers that was as comfy as my antique rg560 smile.gif

MERTAY: She's a keeper! Yeah, the definitions have changed a bit over the years. The LA Custom shop used to take orders from anyone able to pay for example. They don't do that much now and the custom shop mostly makes prototypes that become signature guitars. Of course, the custom shop version is a hand built guitar and the signature versions, even prestige, are factory built, with hand finished necks.

POTSAU: That is amazing! The SABRE series eventually rebranded as the S series was originally thought up to be a touring guitar as it was made to be lighter and less of a burden on the player during long gigs. This one seems to fit the bill! Nice.

KRIS: I've seen your prestige in action and it looks like loads of fun to play! The prestige necks are just wonderful. They carry on the tradition of the original wizard with the 17mm profile at the first fret.

MISSION 62 DEBRIEF!!!

MEDALS OF HONOR

MUTE GAME IS STRONG: If you skimp on muting, this Missions sounds like MUSH, well done.

PICK GAME IS STRONG: Precision picking, hitting only the strings you plan to hit. Not easy with this much traverse.

ARTICULATION
: You gotta use the pinky and use multi picking without missing any notes which is not an easy thing. You don't even flinch!!! Nice and precise pick articulation!

In other words, you just ..

49 MISSION DEBRIEF!!
MEDALS OF HONOR

PUSHING TO TARGET: This is NOT an easy one. Doing multi note tap with an open string is impressive. Score.

PRECISION REIGNS: With multi note taps like this, it's easy to rush or lag just a pinch on one part or another. You never fall victim to it. You precision is great the entire time.

PULLING TO OPEN: Pulling off to an open string is something that some folks struggle with, it often creates unwanted noise. Not with you!! Silent as Death. NICE!

You krushed it Soldier!!!
You just..

so,let's continue. In last time I began to have problems with live sound, the table vibrates from low and transfers all this to a cheap mic while I waiting for a tripod.
in ex.47 I could not stretch my hand to 12 frets, but by the time of recording there are already small successes.
And I did not quite understand the essence of exercise 50, if it is not for working off the right and left hands separately
Timing:
46 - 0:01
47 - 1:02
48 - 2:01
49 - 3:40
50 - 4:20

Well done! Like I Always say. The point of all of this is to be able to play actual Music and that's exactly what you are doing. You have gotten the lick down first and then are jamming beyond it. It sounds like you are really starting to put it together! Keep it up!

MISSION 169 DEBRIEF!

Well Fought Soldier! This is yet another Mission with a LOT of Moving Part. You had zero trouble with them!
MEDALS OF HONOR

OPEN STRING KILLER The open string licks on this one run all the way up the neck so they can be tricky. Not for you! You've got these licks well under control. Impressive!

MULTI PICKING FROM HELL Several levels of multi picking going on here and you don't have trouble with any of them. Very nicely done!

PACING PERFECT These types of licks make it easy to rush parts that seem easy and lag parts that feel hard. You keep good pace the entire time.
You memorized every single one of these licks and played each one very well. I"m proud of you Soldier!!!

Really digging the direction this is taking!! 👌

Todd I need a slightly different file from you:

* check for audio clipping, this one has some nasty ones

* skip all time based effects preferably

* start the file from the beat 1

As many of you know, I’m a BIG fan of Ibanez guitars. I’ve been playing them for years and they remain my fave. This is not to say that everything that they make is great. The fact is, they make a LOT of sub $500 guitars that are honestly not very good. Also, the nomenclature of their naming convention on various guitar models throws some people off. In addition, they continue to blur the line between their higher end Japanese guitar and their slightly cheaper guitars made outside of Japan. As a big fan of Ibanez I get asked a lot about which one would be a good choice. The good news is there are several that are worth owning and many that are very affordable. At the top end of the range, they run towards pricey. The top of the range are generally the J-Custom and Prestige line. (This does not include the Ibanez custom shop guitars which are considered prototypes built for artists in order to be able to make the artist happy and to serve as templates for “Signature” guitars)

THE TOP OF THE LINE - The J CUSTOM

The “J-Custom” series is considered the very top of the pile. These instruments a built only in Japan and are typically the work of a single luthier. They use the highest quality materials (exotic wood and inlays) that Ibanez has to offer. These guitars are usually expensive and are not easy to find and try out. The Jcustom line features very thin necks, many of which are the 17mm at the nut variety. This is the thinnest production neck Ibanez. Makes. It’s these wafer thin necks that make these guitars so easy to play. You can get a better price used than new of course. Many players honestly don’t think the Jcustom is worth the extra money compared to the next step in the line. The “PRESTIGE” series.

NEAR THE TOP OF THE LINE

The “PRESTIGE” line is thought of, by many, as the sweet spot. Where top quality wood and hand finished necks make the price of the instrument worth it. Buying a used prestige in good condition is a great investment. That is, if the guitar speaks to you. Otherwise, do not buy it. The Prestige line are also built in Japan. As many “Ibby snobs” can tell you, the best Ibanez guitars built in Japan. Others say, it’s just that the most expensive guitars are built in Japan. There is some truth in both statements. Prestige guitars tend to hold their value quite well and are always in demand. If you buy one, you will probably be able to get your money back out of it if you decide to sell it.

*These guitars are from a few years ago and they have managed to keep their value pretty well. A prestige in good shape can bring a great price upon resell.

QUESTION: Who owns or has ever owned a PRESTIGE or JCUSTOM? What was your experience? Was it worth what you paid?

The rate of spread for this has been pretty scary indeed. I've run across the theory you are talking about. The idea that the U.S. Did it, but there is precious little evidence it seems. Also keep seeing vids talking about it coming out of a research lab in China. I suppose we may never really know how it all started.

QUOTE (Mertay @ Feb 20 2020, 05:02 AM) *
Few incidents have been seen in Iran, Egypt...these are the places to be afraid of as they might not be able to contain the virus. Russia will shut boarders to China soon completely.

I'd have to agree smile.gif It seems like it did start in that animal market. Which has since been shut down. Such markets are illegal but have operated for many years. It's possible the Govt will be much more harsh on such markets in the future.

QUOTE (klasaine @ Feb 20 2020, 06:03 PM) *
Me either.
The most likely scenario is that it was just another animal borne, flu like disease that they figured would be easily curable and/or burn itself out - as most of these do and that most of us never even hear about. Every once in a while we get one that is a little deadly and not so containable.
Personally, I would stay away from youtube vids, blogs and talk radio shows about the Corona virus.

I really hope they get a vaccine by summer. The knock on effects financially may be felt for quite some time. Despite the Chinese govt pumping money in to the system, the market as was mentioned. We are still quite a way from full recovery in terms of financial results.
QUOTE (AK Rich @ Feb 20 2020, 09:15 PM) *
According to this article that I read last week, there may already be a cure. A lab in California claimed to come up with a vaccine within hours of receiving the genetic sequence. All that's needed is for testing to begin and hopefully be successful.

I wish you the best of luck Phil!!! I didn't know it was your company! Well done there!
Todd
QUOTE (Phil66 @ Feb 20 2020, 04:23 AM) *
I know Todd, I'm trying but it's 10000% unavoidable, mainly work related. When you own the company you can't get out of stuff wink.gif

Nothing bad just one of the workers in hospital (we only have 10 machine operators so it's a large percentage of the machining workforce), a £70k new machine coming so having to prep for that as 5 two ton machines have to be moved out of the way to get it in and then they have to be put back, levelled etc, then training for new machine and getting familiar with it during out of hours so to speak, so as not to encroach on other work that I need to get done in normal hours. BEFORE all that we need to do extra hours to cover the time we're going to lose.

I also signed up for Ben Higgins' 10 day intense speed accelerator course open to a limited amount of students over on Facebook. I may have to pull out of that as my first allegiance is with GMC. I'll see how it goes.

Sorry to bore you with details, hope you understand. Some days won't be affected some will be heavily affected wink.gif

Cheers

Thanks for the clarification smile.gif My only point being that things like this are often snagged and blown way out of proportion by a certain group of youtube folks and the results are not positive. Next thing you know, we have videos cropping up everywhere showing the corona virus and the locusts and following it with a few quotes from revelations saying that the end is near and you need to buy these special pills that will purify your water or taint wipes, etc. Any public tragedy seems to fuel this type of thing which is kinda sad imho sad.gif
One thing that is very real is that the Chinese Economy is going to slow down and also, the largest company on earth, APPLE COMPUTER is going to slow down a bit as well since most of theyr products are built in China. Apple is already warning share holders that there will be a dip and that we may see fewer iphone available due to factories being closed from the virus. Also, there will be other knock on effects of Chine being basically shut down for this long. Prices are going to go up. The stock market is going to go down. All of which is yet more fuel for folks selling "PREPPER" kits and claiming it's all going down the drain. I really don't think it's all going down the drain. I think we are having a run of bad luck that will sort itself out if we can all just stay calm smile.gif Here is that vid about APPLE saying they are not going to make enough iphones due to Corona.

QUOTE (AK Rich @ Feb 20 2020, 02:13 AM) *
You say "Conspiracy Theory" like it has to be some kind of outlandish and unbelievable thing. This term is frequently misused. A conspiracy is simply when 2 or more people get together and conspire to commit a crime of some sort, in most cases Criminal Conspiracy's, and they happen all the time. So a conspiracy theory is simply some people theorizing that there are other people that have conspired to commit a crime.
Criminal conspiracy's are uncovered, tried and convicted quite frequently.
Granted, some theories are bigger than others, involve powerful people, and may seem far fetched and some are of course, but even many of those that sound outlandish have turned out to be real. Many of yesterdays conspiracy theories, even outlandish ones, have ended up being today's news and part of history.
A plague of locusts isn't a conspiracy theory but more like a doomsday prophecy theory unless you want to theorize that it was manufactured by a group of people somehow for nefarious reasons.
A deadly virus, maybe. If again you want to theorize that it was purposefully released or maybe even developed for some nefarious reason.
The idea that this virus may have got away from that lab in Wuhan isn't new although I don't think it has been called a weapons lab but a level 4 research facility for studying deadly viruses of which there are some all over the world. We have such research facilities here in the US too.
Some news organizations were reporting about that idea from the outset of this crisis and mentioned that it had even been warned about by scientists and officials here in the US that something could escape that lab into the population, and about the dangers of the proximity of that lab the huge population center that is Wuhan province.

I like delay and the tone it gives. Especially on solos. But for the purposes of Bootcamp, it just makes things very difficult to grade. So now and then, when you realize you've recorded and left the delay on, it's not a deal killer smile.gif Just try to avoid it in general for Mission videos. If you were not playing with precision, the delay would have made it very clear. Well played! You are ready for what's next soldier!!!

It's like Synthwave but with more modern drum samples. I like it!!! It's been amazing to see how fast synthwave/retrowave has blown up on youtube. All the sudden there are hundreds of folks/bands playing stuff that sounds spot on right out of the eighties. After watching that video on how easy it is to create synth wave now using fruity loops, I guess it makes sense why we are seeing so much of it. It's just not that hard to do with modern tools and it's retro so it sounds cool smile.gif

Todd
QUOTE (Mertay @ Feb 19 2020, 07:30 AM) *

I have been noodling with synth.s and loops for 2-3 weeks now. With basic chord theory and some thought given to inversions, as the computer is so easy to compose by listening playback (some genre's need no theory at all actually). A GMC'er may not have a midi-keyboard but using the mouse is ideal anyway for beginners. A small intro I made (used both loops and synth., but this is more experimental for me rather than imitating a style));

Thanks much for sharing!! Those are probably the most interesting cover tunes I've heard in quite some time. They are cover tunes, but they are doing them their own way. That's something I can really appreciate.

Speaking of which, here is the late great Chris Cornell doing an acoustic / vocal cover of BILLIE JEAN by Michael Jackson. He really made it his own thing.

This is the same song (believe it or not) done by ALIEN ANT FARM (one hit wonder and it was a cover). Goes to show how vastly different two arists can interpret a given song.

In a FAR less interpretive vibe, here is the same guy I found for the first video and here he is doing his version of TOSS A COIN TO YOUR WITCHER which has become the big tune that everyone on youtube seems to be making a cover of!

QUOTE (Farine54 @ Feb 19 2020, 07:54 AM) *
Hi,

I really like covers (especially live), and appreciate them even more if they are out of the ordinary. I do not necessarily expect them to be guitar oriented, just that they give me emotion, a bit like these smile.gif :

This is much better Soldier!! You get better with each take and that's a good thing. You are finally in full control of your playing. You keep Solid synch the entire time, you are locked in with the metronome and you play with precision. This is exactly what I want to see. From here, you are ready to start speeding up. You've got to make it to this point before you can start getting "Fast". You have made it that point Soldier!!! Let's Debrief!!
SNIPER Just like a SNIPER, being able to STRIKE WITH PRECISION is CRUCIAL!! It's the foundation of everything. You are getting a good handle on your precision!!!
CONSISTENCY This the second most important thing you have to learn. Without consistent playing, you get random rushing/lagging and one can never truly shred. You are breaking through the barriere here and showing very good consistent playing.
MUTE TO KILL Lastly, you HAVE to be able to palm mute while you traverse string without lifiting your hand. This is something we have been working on for several Missions. I've been trying to help you train your hand to just tilt while keep contact with the bridge and picking with the thumb/first finger. You've finally got it!!

Congrats Soldier... You just..

LEVELED UP!!!!

CONGRATS Soldier. You've earned it!!! You are finally at that place where you are able to play with precision, in a consistent manner, and with a solid palm mute. You've got your foundational Skills and you are ready to Move forward!!!!!!

Do be expecting much though, at least for a couple of weeks, I may even end up regressing somewhat but I can always start progressing again when things settle down. I do think I'll get a BC11 take to you soon.

Infected people are above 70,000 and climbing. Thankfully, it's been kept mostly in China so far. I'm thankful for that! In this video, the same building that saw the SARS virus spread through the pipes in the building was suspe cted of doing so again with corona. Thankfully it was a false alarm. in another case, they tried to quarantine people on a cruise ship and it just made things worse.

3,000 Medical Workers roughly infected which is very sad sad.gif

The really scary new bit of news is that there are Chinese News Sources saying that it's possible that the CORONA VIRUS was leaked from a biological weapons research facility in Wuhan. Research at this facility(The Wuhan Center for Disease Control) involves bats and it's possible a bat got loose and the rest is history. This sounds like a "Conspiracy Theory", but it's being reported by actual news outlets, not just crazy bloggers.

Also, any one who says bad things about the way the govt is handling the crisis, are being "disapeared" they Just go missing. One professor in particulare is mentioned in this report.

I hope this thing wraps up soon as I'm starting to see really strange videos on youtube about how this is a "Biblical Plague" (it's not, it's a regional virus and it's not going to kill 1/3 of humanity as foretold in the book of Revelations). Also, there has been a "Locust Plague" in Africa recently which also has the Conspiracy Theory people going nuts. A "Plague of Locusts" to go with out "Breaking of the 7th Seal" is just what every bible thumping conspiracy zealot needs to start asking for more donations. Uggh.

Even legitimate outlets like DW in Germany are calling it a "Plague of Locusts". I wish they would stop using that word.

I"m using my single coil pickup on this one with a good bit of slap back which I've been playing with lately. It's a hardware patch done on my Ampero played live which is rare for me these days as I mostly use Overloud so I can change the patch later in the mix. Not this time! smile.gif

I used to be a big fan of sound cloud. These days, it's running $16 a month and I keep hearing that it's about to go down the drain at any time so I killed my pro subscription package. Usually I"ll just make a video and put it on youtube when doing music..Most folks discover music through youtube. This wasn't always the case but it is now. To wit..

I hope the FX are not too over the top smile.gif

It's great to see you jumping in to things like this PHIL!!!!! I am thrilled to see you playing on tracks. Every time you try one, it's better than the previous. The only way to get good at playing solos is to "play through the suck". Every player has to go through it. That period of just not liking what you are able to play. I think you've earned your wings here Phil and I certainly like what you are coming up with I hope you do to!

I really enjoy this style! I'm not enjoying The Weeknd new song, and discovered a band called The Midnight.

What about this?

You are getting better with each Take Soldier!! Let's Debrief!!! MEDALS OF HONOR

SNIPER Picking with the the tactical precision of a Sniper. Precision is the KEY to everything. Keep it up!!
CONSISTENCY This is the most important thing you can practice. Precision is the foundation of everything that relies on it which is to say EVERYTHING.
MUTE TO KILL Also crucial is a good palm mute. Your palm mute has gotten a LOT better in just a few missions. keep this up and you are well on your way!!!!!
TONE CHOICE: Please avoid that patch in the future due to the DELAY. It makes it very hard to hear what notes are actually being played and which ones are from the delay. You can use that patch, just torn the delay all the way down or off.

Well Fought Soldier you just..
LEVELED UP!!!!

Here is no 09.
I builded some speed. Especially with my classical. Still I got a very calm feeling. Just some tension in the right arm. But its still a fine feeling. My wrist gets down in movement mor and more. My forearm is not moving anymore that sick sht. Its a fine feeling. Thats 150. Thats today my cap. Speeded up from130. Mabey I can reach 155 - 160. Tomorrow.

PROGRESS!!!!!! Let's Debrief!!

PINKY POWER: Well done on using the tiny finger without a pick! This is crucial to this Mission. If you can play without a pick, then the pick becomes a tone choice. So you can play pretty much anything you want with just one hand. Now you just decide whether you want more attack and use a pick or less attack and don't use one!
PACE: You may notice I mention the pace quite a bit. It's yet another crucial element. Being able to play with consistent pace is truly the key to being able to shred at top speed. Unless one can play with consistency, one can never play well at speed. Your doing just fine!
PRECISION: Hitting all of these with enough power to make a note without hitting the wrong fret is not easy. Nice! You are moving at a good clip as well!!

You are on a ROLL Soldier!!!!
You just..
LEVELED UP!!!
