Honestly it doesn't require any comment.

I have nothing to Dave personally - nor good or bad. Always liked Megadeth but never consider Mustaine to be a guitar solos player. I'm very careful and would never agree to put myself in something I'm not sure about...Even if I think my skills let me play it "pretty descent" at home.
It's just about a respect for the listener.

What do You think guys/girls?

BTW...You know I'm not the type of guy who like to troll people (I hate that) but in this particular case it's rather a "self trolling" by letting this happen...

I actually passed the exam and started college with my own arrangement of this. Was slightly shredier but really needed a good warm up before playing + I was much younger as muscles becoming stiff while playing wasn't a problem even if my technique was too rough (picking power came only from my arm those days).

So its a terrible choice for him. As far as I know he had a surgery on his hand years ago and running up/down scales really wasn't his thing in the past too.

Some on web also blames the sound guy, rumor is lots of feedback occured so some stupid things were done to solve it. Makes sense, the tone is horrid and there's a good chance he might not be hearing himself good cause some of the the mistakes are so simple even for him.

I know life sucks and makes us uncomfortable many times while playing so I didn't comment on tone. I just that for me things were always simple....You can play or can't play something. Situations where You need to take of the distortion (feedback) are not and explain for those essential mistakes / lack of precision. You can always say that "my dive bombs didn't work because without huge gain natural harmonics on 2nd and 3rd fret are almost impossible to sustain" but...here we speak of essential ability to sync both hands and keep timming.

There is nothing bad to not be able to play this piece. The deal is...You have to know Your limits and avoid situations like this. He's a cool rhythm player who always had a solo guitarist in his band...why does he try to be solo star now?

I guess more people should think much better until accept to play with an orchestra. Dave it's not the first and not the last one who fail in such a project. Maybe had a bad day tongue.gif
IMHO to play with an orchestra it's a job for a virtuoso guitarist. It's totally different from the guitar band job. There you must play with a bunch of awesome and virtuosos musicians. Also it would be much better if you tried to play classical music or listened carefully this music because even if we talk about electric guitar you must respect some classical accents. You can't put mustard in a cake wink.gif

I think Cosmin can tell us many stories about his experience with Mozart Rocks orchestra smile.gif What it looks cool and easy can be a damn hard job smile.gif

Still having a hard time as someone experienced as he is (I bet all the forum combined doesn't have the stage experience he has) makes such stupid mistakes.

I mean yeah he definitely didn't do his homework rolleyes.gif but analyzing the mistakes (to me) strongly points out he can't hear himself or the orchestra properly either.

For example right at the beginning of the video before he turns the volume on I think he's trying to memorize the metronome and keeping shaking his head not to lose it.

When this happens not only time but also sense of tone can slip too, I don't have much PA experience but in studio I seen this happen even to the best musician if he can't hear himself or the backing track comfortably.

If he tried to memorize the metronome was a wrong way. This thing not working with an orchestra. His job was time to time to look at music conductor. Even if somebody it's the master of keeping a perfect timming it's impossible to make this here. If the conductor change the tempo unexpected a little slower or a little fast, your mind metronome it would be useless. That's why you must look all the time at music conductor signs, that's why you must be prepared to play with an orchestra.

I wonder how can situations like this happen at this level of popularity...I mean whole the backline crew, production etc. I can (not say I agree with it) understand when something like this happens to a Young band while performing (sound guy tired after whole gear and tone set-up, having a need of a moment to relax) but...this is the 1st league ...so how can this happen there...

Poor Dave. I'm sure that he didn't have a good time there. I don't know what's the error here, wrong decision, not practice, bad tone and monitoring conditions but I'm sure that the next time that he is invited to do something like this, he will think on it twice.

This isn't exactly what I meant on monitoring. Like; take a backing track we do here on collab.s, write a solo on it and make it record ready by practice. But just before first take, imagine just as you're entering the solo someone mutes the backing track but you must keep recording...

Also on solo accompanied songs like these (classical included), its actually the conductor who has to meet the soloist unlike orchestral songs. They never give instructions to the soloist but listen them to command the orchestra on the right time, he isn't a time source either just watch his hands almost always they have to move pre-beat or it would be too late to give command.

Its okay Dave, you just need to start a mentoring program with this guy -

then you'll be able to hang with an orchestra.

I thought the same thing until I saw another recording of the performance floating around on youtube. It sounded just as terrible. It's as if they didn't even do a sound check! It was like a cheese grater across my ears. Yikes. Hopefully he'll learn from this.

Dude I would PAY ANY PRICE To play this song with you with that orchestra. Even if it meant I had to pay the orchestra and the venue. It's officially on my "Bucket List" of things to do before I die. MY fave classical piece, done with verve and feeling. Well done.

I understand what you meant smile.gif

BTW your explanation remind me about, those backings when you start to play along with them and at one moment the backing stop for 10-20 sec but you must continue to keep the rhythm and when backing start again you must be in time with the backing. Very good for practice. wink.gif

With the other part I'm not agree with you and I still say that the soloist must to meet the conductor (at least, this is how I learned in music school tongue.gif). You must have time to watch at his hands. Imagine that it's like when you have to play a hard piece and you must follow in the same time the music sheet. You can't say I can't because I don't have time to watch at my music sheet. With practice you have time for everything. If you close your eyes you must be able to see in your mind the guitar neck and play.
