GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Is This True?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi May 16 2014, 10:57 PM

This situation happened with Cirse during more than 7 years... we had an old Van and used to put there all our gear to go to gigs in which most of the times we had to pay for playing.. this is hard, but it's passion, it's following a dream.

did this happen to you? or maybe.. does this happen to you nowadays?

yes , and several times the only ones there were our wives

I love when I see that picture float around.

A few years ago I decided to be a smart musician. You have to say no to some gigs you don't want to, you have to say yes to gigs you never thought you would have to. You have to stay modest with your living and work with what you have sometimes. . . .

But there is a way to do it and do it well. I have a decent car, good gear, and live a full financially sound life.

If I only had a dollar for each time this scenario came to reality laugh.gif biggrin.gif

I think Gabi also has some stories, so I will let him begin with the first one laugh.gif

100 miles for a $50 gig ???

That picture is (unfortunately) very true.

If you try to charge the travel costs, the usual question they have is if this is the vehicle you are traveling in :

OR this one :

.... what would they like our full band + gear to travel in (costs wise) :

hahaha I don't want to count the quantity of times this happened... we could multiply 8 (years) x 30 (gigs per year)? Let's forget this... laugh.gif

Heh, I know all these situations all too well. We are at the point at which we can cover travel and accommodation costs alongside the fees for our sound engineer and two tech crew members, but we end up with nothing for us - which is awesome given the situation in which we don't end up paying for anything actually laugh.gif
