Derek Trucks is the absolute man. i dont think anyone captures an emotion with a guitar better than him. if i had to pick i would say this is my favorite solo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0hr2HWOohM

the solo starts at 4:05 but i suggest listening to the whole song if you've never heard it. you wont be disappointed

one of my favourites ( more Gilmour! ) is "Shine on you crazy diamond". I dont know if you would call it a solo as such but his lead playing in the first 9 ish minutes of that song is just ridiculously amazing. it blows me away everytime.

It's hard to choose a favorite solo. As Bleez said, also my choice it can't be call solo because it's about Andy Timmons - "Gone". His performance from this song will always be nr.1 for me smile.gif

Anyway if it's possible I will put a second choice for a solo. It's from Errorhead-" Heaven". The solo start at 2:52 smile.gif

It's tough to nail down any one solo as a favorite, I have many from a lot of different guitar players, some of which have been mentioned here already such as Gilmore, Beck, Timmons and Trucks. Santana and Hendrix, among others have some favorites as well. I guess my favorite could change on any given day or at any given moment depending on the mood at the time etc. One favorite solo that comes to mind at the moment comes from Frank Zappa. There is a bit of colorful language at the intro from the Cenral Scrutinizer so be warned. smile.gif Solo starts at 1:21 and continues throughout the rest of the song.

WOW - this was hard! smile.gif

I couldn't really pick one solo that I like the most.

Somehow I'd settle for this one as one of my favorite ones: Joe Satriani - The Extremist ...it is a bit of cheating though as it is an instrumental song. I really like the whole vibe song creates. Reminds me of late night driving through the city blended with 80s tones smile.gif

I can't really pinpoint one favorite solo, but as I'm in a bit of a classic prog metal phase, I think I'm gonna say some of John Petrucci's early work or some solos from Michael Romeo from Symphony X.
