It'll be interesting to see if this gets some momentum with some big name players adopting it, since the rest of the PRS amp line has kinda fallen flat as far as I can see...

It is strange about PRS amps not gaining much traction, I know David Grissom plays them and might have a signature model, but even that hasn't caught on like his signature PRS guitar.

Sadly, as you probably have noticed, AXE FX and such have taken a HUGE dent out of the amp market. NOT TO SAY IT"S DEAD smile.gif IT"S NOT smile.gif

But as I'm sure you've seen, every day some legendary player switches over to axe fx or kemper and starts extolling the virtues of the technology as a creative tool. And of course, they have a good point. Now that those units can sound like pretty much any amp on earth, (especially the kemper) what's the point of buying a single amp? (this is where some folks start to come unglued/heated/etc.) Not to say that amps don't have their place. They do. Some people honestly feel they can't get the tone they want from a kemper/axe etc. So amps are not going away anytime soon.

But getting a new amp line off the ground is getting more and more difficult. On the upside, for each amp that does come out, someone takes the time to profile it and upload the patch to the KEMPER site smile.gif So it has democratized amps to the point where anyone can have pretty much any sound.

Very good observations Todd. I will admit that, for a musician, ease and convenience is attractive. If I could get a great tone that still sounds like ME from software or something, instead of micing up a 4x12 then surely it makes sense to use it ? Especially for making lessons, collabs etc where you've got to plug in and whip up a recording. If I was recording an entire album then I'd probably go the whole hog and mic up the beast but anything else.. it's just easier to plug and play smile.gif

Very good observation from Todd smile.gif

Now, I have spoken with the PRS dealer and they told me that it's finally something good in respect to amsp, as the previous models were pretty much not that great.

In an age when life is not easy for a musician, it is most likely more easy to have to carry around something which is fairly small in comparison to a head and cab.

I think it will be interesting if any artists will move away from the Axe Fx and Kemper and go to an Amp head and the Torpedo Live as a solution

I'm there are plenty of examples smile.gif For example, ALEX LIFESON from RUSH uses HUGHES AND KETTNER amp heads and a speaker simulator like the torpedo. There are many such examples of big acts using BIG IRON smile.gif But from what I've seen, the preponderance of these cases are well established acts that have been around for quite some time and have found their tone in certain hardware and simply married it.

It seems that a large number of younger bands are moving towards axe/kemper partially due to simple economics. Touring is expensive and if they can use the kemper to profile their MESA at home and then just take the kemper on tour, it can save quite a bit of money in terms of just shipping weight/fuel spent/roadie hours/load in load out/etc.

So while I"m sure there will be some examples of folks finding their magic mojo in hardware amps and abandoning their axe/kemper, my guess is that there will be far more examples of folks going the other way and keeping their prized amp at home and taking their kemper/axe on the road smile.gif

Thanks GABE and BEN smile.gif I agree all the way especially on home recording/collabing even practicing!! When I go to sit down and practice, it is really handy to simply plugin and get decent tone. Before I started using OVERLOUD and such, I would spend about 20 minutes dialing in tone during warmup. These days I just plug in and warm up smile.gif

For recording/collabing it's very handy as well. One can get a really nice tone with a few clicks. Some tools that I"ve just started using make it even quicker. For example EZ MIX 2 with the GUITAR GODS EXPANSION PACK. Is what I used on the XMAS COLLAB and several folks commented on how spiff the tone sounded. There are very few tweak options with ez mix/guitar gods so you just click on the preset and that's pretty much it. IT was even quicker / easier than TH2.

Of course, this is NOT TO SAY it's not worth buying/using/learning to tweak and record a real amp. I believe it's well worth it as those concepts carry over directly to things like TH2 and the virtual world, as well as the fact that some times, in some cases, you really want an amp or it's simply all that's available as back line etc. So being well versed in getting good tone and being able to get that tone in to the P.A./Computer/Mixing board etc remains a valuable "core" skill IMHO even in the age of plugins smile.gif
