Posted by: CathShadow Sep 18 2009, 08:28 PM

Ok so I was messing around with some chords and played this tune but it sounds SERIOUSLY familiar.

Does anyone recognise it????

(scuse the sound)  arbriff.mp3 ( 202.08K ) : 180

 arbriff2.mp3 ( 224.08K ) : 139
< slightly better quality I think tongue.gif

Hmmm, sounds familiar to me, I just can't recall what it might be

Hehe, I know this problem, sometimes I am working on some ideas, and at some point they start to sound familiar, but I can't tell what it is... that's the moment when the idea gets buried wink.gif

Hmm I'm not sure... I last listened to maiden probably in 2002/3... I guess it COULD be though....

Most likely you will recall the "original" as soon as you stop trying to find out about it wink.gif

Putting some original vocals/lead melody on top of it would make it your original I believe. The signal was really badly clipped.

Hehe yeah sorry about that...

Hmmm I uploaded a "cleaner" version of the sound

So I finally found out which song it was:

Yeah, that's pretty much the same as the intro smile.gif

There are tooo many riffs with similar idea, walking 5th, min 6th and 4th over fixed root,
I believe you can avoid familiar sounding (if you want) by changing rhythm pattern,
rhythm changes everything. smile.gif

Yeah I noticed a lot of times in my playing that changing rhythm even just slightly completely alters the sound... it's actually really cool

That's the power of rhythm indeed.
If you analyze some epic melodies (like Jingle Bells per example)
you'll notice that rhythm is actually what's more important and not notes (pitch),
Scott Henderson explained that nicely in one of his tutorials tho,
you keep playing same rhythm with different notes and it still reminds of same "melody". smile.gif
