The 2nd Kris's version sounds better than first one! smile.gif

Master mix from audiopaal sounds great too, I think it is a bit too boomy tho. A more subtle compression would be better.

Now that you mention it, it might be a bit boomy..
I actually think that's from equalizer, not the compression but I'll look into it smile.gif

Glad you like it though smile.gif

Well, here's my quick take smile.gif

Loner Master Test: [attachment=15097:master2.mp3]

Awesome Paal - so heavy! I was blown away laugh.gif Great insight to see you how you worked with it as well!

QUOTE (audiopaal @ Apr 19 2009, 09:50 PM) *
You're track is too loud to begin with actually, as you can see on the wave file.

I hadn't though about that - but now that you say it - it explains some things! Thanks, this might definitely help my future tweaking.

Audiopaal, very nice job smile.gif.

Kris, that opening riff though very simple is really tasty and addictive

I thought it sounded good as well, so it's nice to see you agree smile.gif
Yeah, it helps when things are explained, I've had to learn it the hard way though, trial and error biggrin.gif

Yep, it's better to make it louder during the mastering, not while recording and mixing!
Just a tip smile.gif

Thanks guys smile.gif
But it didnt take me more than 2 minutes. Loaded it into Ozone 4.0 and EQ'd up some bass and some treble while removing some of the higher mids. Ozone did most of the heavy lifting here smile.gif

The hi-hats came out as maybe a tad too sharp though.

I think so too, but that could be hard to adjust during mastering. Possibly with some frequency cutoff but still...

Hehe wow - extremely cool Trond! biggrin.gif I might be off now - but I actually thought it sounded "trondish" biggrin.gif somehow reminded of your rhythm guitar sound.

* Kris off to practice mastering some more*

Ok I made another one which to me is a compromise between the more scooped-out low-end sound, and my original master sound:
Attached File  a_loner_master14.mp3 ( 7.98MB ) Number of downloads: 422

I must say I still like the mid-range-rich mix - I think it somehow gives a modern rock sound.

The way I hear it, guitars are "eating up" the mid-himid range a bit. For example, cymbals are a bit choked now, but it is all the question of what needs to be achieved in the end. If the guitars have to go in front, then I think this is the right direction to follow.

The tracks is good.

But I'm a bit disappointing with the production quality on this.

EDIT*

Looks like you guys got this under control smile.gif

I'm at work with the worst built in laptop speakers, so nothing sounds good here.. sad.gif
