laugh.gif Thanks!

I couldn't help myself... just had to make a quick mix of this song. Nothing wrong with your mix though, but I'd personally like to hear some more instruments in the chorus to back up the excellent harmonies/melody smile.gif

Tony has made some good recording topics here.

For what we are discussing now (the mastering) the most important tools are a multiband compressor and a limiter (limiters used for mastering are often call "maximizers" ). Other things you can use on the whole mix are parametric equalizers, enhancers and stereo widening tools.

But yes we (especially me!) need more easy-to-follow recording tutorials! biggrin.gif

How clever am I not to look in the whole 'RECORDING FORUM' first!!!

I did that one a long long time ago (seems like anyways), doesn't cover any mixing but was just intended to get reaper set up to record- anyhow, hope it helps some wink.gif

It will do once I get my new Machine up and running!! This one's so old and slow that it can't handle running Reaper!! I'm OK with the actual Recording process it's just using MIDI and VST's etc that I have no idea about at all!!

The last version sounds great to me. Nice subtle difference in lows has made a world difference, and I can hear everything very nicely now. The vocals are now killer in choruses, sounds really great. smile.gif

I think your new master sounds better Kris, good job smile.gif
Oh, and nice job by Marcus too smile.gif

Since there's a lot of people interested in mixing and mastering, I could do a thread about it if it's something people want to read about!?
When I start my next song this week, I'll explain about recording, panning, mixing, effects, plug-ins, mastering etc. with soundclips to go with it smile.gif

It won't be done for a little while though, but in the end it could prove to be very useful for some of you smile.gif
It'll be a pretty long thread I believe laugh.gif

So... Want me to do it?

Thanks helo92 smile.gif

What I think I did different from the other mixes, was that I added more instruments. Sometimes it works better to overdub the guitars with strings (violins) or organs, rather than tweaking the EQ.

Ok I have digested all the feedback of this thread - and I have done yet a mix which I think might be my favorite one so far.

I have added some more synth dubs to the guitars (organs, strings and some other, weirder stuff).

I mixed the mutliband compressor very low this time - so it's just a very light midrange colloration - instead I did some serious "maximising" of the whole mix.

I think this one is much heavier but still has some good midrange in it.

>>Final Mix?!

I just listened to this Kris, and although I couldn't turn up the volume due to some circumstances, it sounds really good smile.gif
I'll have another listen (a looud one tongue.gif) tomorrow, and tell you what I think smile.gif

But it seems you're getting the hang of it now, sounds better than your first mix anyway smile.gif
