GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ How Did You Find Gmc?

Posted by: Layzer Jul 23 2007, 04:56 PM

Kris, i was wondering how you have acquired most of the members here. I forgot how i came upon the site, all i remember is having my guitar in my hand watching http://guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/yngwie-malmsteen-lesson/index.htm and having my jaw dropped. ohmy.gif

I know a lot of poeple http://www.youtube.com or search their way here but what have you done in terms of advertisement, and what are you planning on doing in regards to advertisement in the future of GMC?

If this is an inappropriate question i apologize blink.gif

The reason i ask is because i have multiple friends (who know nothing about guitar or music in general) that want me to give them lessons (no time\need theory in my brain first! blink.gif )and i always show them this site and they also drop their jaws when they see the instructors play anything. The addition of the beginner link on the front page and the new beginner\intermediate lessons lately, has really made this much more beginner friendly.

I like bolding and italicizing. Also not sure where to post this topic, lot of new forums!

Good 'ol Google for me!

I also saw Kris's video on UG doing the FAQ video which I thought was hilarious. I had no idea who he was at this point, but later in the week I found GMC through Google and had to watch it again.

I just googled my way for it.
I saw through some sites, and found nothing really interesting, but then i saw !guitarmasterclass.net : probably the best guitar lessons on internet (i think it was standing like that )
I am a true believer and im pretty easy to brainwash and so on, so i thought, man, i really have to sign up to this! and..for the first time in my life, i wasnt just tricked, and i soon found out that Guitarmasterclass IS the best guitar lesson site on the internet! totaly worth the money

I found it through UG.. i was downloading a guitar pro tab and on the download page there was a picture of Kris pointing at me and i was drawn in... and now i come here everyday... what happened.... biggrin.gif

I think mine was UG also. I was getting lessons there. And came across Kris's Lessons on there. Watching his Slash Pentatonics one!!

Posted by: SLASH91 Jul 23 2007, 07:01 PM

It was his tapping lesson and later his hybrid picking lessons on UG for me.

I was googling reviews for a few pieces of gear since I'm not too satisfied with anything I've read on Harmony Central (99% of the reviews seem too enthusiastically positive to be objective, maybe it's just me)

Anyway, I clicked a link that brought me to the forum, and when I'd seen what I'd stumbled onto I totally got distracted from what I was there for. I went to the front page, looked at the lick of the day and was like "neat!" (that welcome video still makes me laugh.. "YOU READY?! **SHRED!**") Then I looked around a little more, saw the samples for some of Pavel's rock & rhythm lessons and was like "OMFG". Then I signed up tongue.gif

A friend of mine - who bought my first Ibanez RG from me, gave me the link to GMC. God knows how he found it - but here i am now! smile.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jul 23 2007, 09:49 PM

Haha this is a hilarious topic - really interesting! biggrin.gif

Does anybody else want to share how they found the site?

PS

I found it by opening my browser..erm sorry huh.gif biggrin.gif

I saw the tapping lesson on UG and then came to this site just to see what else was here. Next day I joined up....best money I've spent besides my Les Paul.

Hmm.. how did i find GMC?

My guitar spoke to me smile.gif .....really, it did. I'm not crazy blink.gif

Naw, actually I found it by google, as many of you did. AND I was really hesitant to pay real cash for an ONLINE only guitar lesson. I was like, well $30USD down the drain.... until I got to see all the lessons, then I loved it.
This is excellent quality stuff here, and we have some fantastic people in our little society :}, intructors and students alike.

Totally worth the price!

when i first started playing guitar, i always visited http://www.freelicks.net, and i saw a link to this website, and i decided to check it out and it turned out to be way better than Free Licks!!

Posted by: muris Jul 24 2007, 01:03 AM

Kris asked me the same the first time we spoke via mail.
A friend told me about it,can't recall which one,it was on MSN.
But big thanks to him, this place is awesome! cool.gif

Clicked on a link looking for guitar gear and or tabs and found one of those site reviewer people. And this was one of the tops. Looked through the site, looked like quality and saw that Kris wasn't a lazy american teacher and tried it out. BTW, I'm from america, and just like foreign things better, like honda for example or a japanese ibanez.

kris lured me in here with his tapping lesson on UG

Posted by: Layzer Jul 24 2007, 01:54 AM

Hah cool...I can't remember how i got here...i think it was something to do with Kris's Zakk Wylde guitartube.

Posted by: chast Jul 24 2007, 06:12 PM

I also can't remember completely how i got here.
But the first video of Kris I saw @ ug, I dont know anymore which lesson this was.
One day I discovered freelicks.net
I thought about registering @gmc but I wasnt sure, if I should pay for a website. And if forgot about it after some months.

Now I have holidays and I also have no lessons when I have holidays wink.gif
So I decided to register here, becuase I saw the videos that were for free and I liked them and now I am happy smile.gif

I saw Kris tapping video on UG I think it was, and I learned some basic tapping from that short video and thought this lesson was awesome so I signed up!

Had been a member on another site before, and it was great but really boring, no vids just MP3 and text so I always got bored after 2 days, but I stuck to GMC.

Comming up on 3 months now and I can promise u u'll see me here for another couple of years till I learn everything there is to learn on this site tongue.gif

you guys should think about putting an add in the guitarworld mag. i got it yeasterday and if GMC had an add in it more people could enjoy this site

Posted by: The Uncreator Jul 26 2007, 05:48 PM

I found GMC When i typed in "awesome guitar solo" on youtube and Curious Coincidence came up, i looked up Kristofer Dahl and found this site smile.gif

Posted by: jeff Jul 26 2007, 05:50 PM

I googled for a Mark Knopfler lead and it lead me to youtube where I saw Kris playing Sultans of Swing on freelicks.net. Then I saw Curious Coincidence and I wanted to learn all of those cool tricks in that song. It wasn't on freelicks originally so I signed up for Masterclass just to learn how to play it. I'm sure glad I did and I've seen GMC grow tremendously since then and it just gets better everyday! It is by far the best guitar site out there. biggrin.gif
