GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ New Song (5 String Bass Added) Whaddya Think?

I just bought a 5 string Ibanez bass, so I wanted to add it in a song. I've worked up this spiff rythm bit that sounds sorta like a string/orchestra bed playing triplets behind the guitars but it's really the bass with a custom guitar rig 4 patch on it. the bass cuts out in the middle so you can tell the difference.
It almost reminds me of the guitar sound on Ride The Lightning in parts. What do you guys think?

Bass is somehow booming a lot on one specific frequency on my monitors which gets really loud and amplified.
Might be some effect though, what did you put on it btw?
I would suggest going for a completely dry bass signal with no effects or amp modeling. Reverb is usually a big no for rhythm bass guitar track as you immediately loose definition and character.
For the strongest, powerful yet tight sounding bass - try using a clean DI signal with some minor EQ and compression.
Yap - we bassist often have it really easy when it comes to live sound or recording, all you need is a good bass and DI unit straight to the mixer Bass amp is often not recorded at all - or recorded as an additional track that gives a bit of color to the bass sound.

It's actually mixed that way I wanted to emphasize the bass part. I"m using an Ibanez 5 string bass and a custom patch from GUITAR RIG 4 (tons of great Bass Rigs in GR4!) If you have Gr4 I'd be happy to share the patch! It's a rack full of stuff including a PRO CO RAT distortion.
I was actually trying to put all that crazy effects stuff on their for the impact/effect that it's getting. But I hear ya, if I wanted to atually hear the bass part/tone, I'd have a clean track with just the bass. Always a good idea to mix in clean bass!
