I think the verse chord progression is
Bm-A-Em-F#m
The chorus is a little harder for me to figure out as all the instruments come in so it is harder to hear the guitar.

Hi Jesse. The chords from the chorus are (Bm - G - A - D - Bm - G - A). Play the progression over the song and try to identify the chords. The chorus uses the same chords but in a different order, maybe you could try to discover it.

Okay I think the order of the chords in the chorus is G-D-A-Bm-G-A-Bm.
And were the verse chords Bm-A-Em-F#m ?

The correct progression for the chorus is: G - D - A - E - G - A - Bm - A. There were some differences with the verse's chords...

It is so discouraging and depressing how bad my ear is. Okay I will give the verse chords another shot and see if I can get them right.

not exactly, the verse is Bm - G - A - D. Again, please don't worry about this. One thing that really helps is to get a chords book from any of your favourite bands and play over the songs concentrating on the the sound of each chord. I used to do this for many hours every day when I was starting to play. There are also many software for Ear Training that are free like this one:

I tried out the Bm-G-A-D and it did fit better smile.gif haha truly you are the master ! But thanks so much for the link to the Ear Training software. I figure if I spend about 2.5 hours a week on ear training ( thats just 5 mornings of spending half an hour on there while I drink coffee smile.gif my ear would probably improve tons ! So What is the next step to that song? We have it all figured out but the solo .

Ok, so now let's give shape to this:

Name of the song: Someday
Name of the band: Nickelback

Structure // What is happening? // Chords & Scales

Structure: You will divide the tune in Intro - Riff - Verse - Prechorus- - Chorus - Solo - Part C and so... You can add the letters A, B, C to the sections when you find different ones in the same tune (Ex: Verse A, Verse B, Chorus, Solo A, Solo .

what is happening?: Here you will describe each part. You can explain how is the part, if it has vocals, screams, melodies, harmonizations, how much is last, how many measures, etc. Every information that could be useful to understand the part.

Chords & Scales: Here you will post the tonality, the chord progression and the scales used for the melodies and solos.

SONG: Someday
ARTIST: Nickelback

Here is the order

Verse- Bm-G-A-D
Bridge - I think it's just a palm muted Bm power chord
Chorus - G-D-A-Em-G-A-Bm-A
Verse- Bm-G-A-D
Bridge- Palm mute Bm power chord
Chorus-G-D-A-Em-G-A-Bm-A
Solo - The sole consists of 11 bars so 44 beats , the only other thing I know is it sounds like he is using triplets and a second guitar comes in halfway through
Verse -Bm-G-A-D
Bridge- palm mute Bm
Chorus x2 - G-D-A-Em-G-A-Bm-A Then they sing the last line " i know your wondering when your the only one who knows that " 3 times and end on a Bm

Great job man! I recommend you to save this analysis and keep on doing the same thing with as many songs as you like/can. You will start noticing what are the structures, progressions, ways of arranging most used in your favorite songs and this will give you tools to work on your own compositions. One thing that really helps me to understand the progressions used is to also write the progression in roman numbers. That would make easier to understand exactly the relationship between chords. Let's start with another song now.

Are you working on the technique exercises? how is it going?

Yes I am going to save that sheet. I am already using it smile.gif I picked out a slow easy song yesterday and tried to figure it out . I think I found the progression and the key .

SONG: Revelation song
ARTIST:unknown
ORDER: Verse,Verse,Chorus,Instrumental,Verse,Chorus,Instrumental,Verse,Chorus,Chorus,in
strumental.
KEY: G major
CHORD PROGRESSION: V-II-IV-I. or D-Am-C-G. Believe it or not these four chords repeat themselves the whole song .
I have played this song in church before so I knew the outline of it but I didn't know the key or the exact progression. I knew there was only 4 chords but that was all I could remember. Here is the link

Regarding the technique Lately I have neglected the warmup you showed me. But I wrote out all my guitar goals on paper and hung them in my room. It helps me focus my practice time better . In them I put Improve my technique. Here is the list of techniques I want to improve in the order I would like to work on them.

Vibrato
Legato
Slide's
Harmonics
Bends
Alternate picking
Tapping
Hammer on's and pull off's ( although for me this and legato fall into the same camp )

I was thinking we could pick 1 at a time and master it ?
