Friend of mine who teaches online since covid now has suffered a bad injury. He felt pain from his shoulder and back while just about to start recording a new single. The pain started mildly on day 1 but got so bad he couldn't sleep on day 2...

Went to the hospital, turns out the tendons were damaged from his shoulder area. He's been resting for a week now using mild medication. The medication is for anti-inflammatory. It's interesting cause tendon damage usually happens around the wrist.

Our guess of cause is related to teaching live-online. He has a heavy LP and probably while showing stuff to students through camera, the un-ideal holding position+the weight of the guitar slowly brought damage he wasn't aware.

He gave a break to teaching for 2-3 weeks, the doctor said it was ok for him to recording the single cause some movement is good for the healing process. After that probably will get a light guitar and better camera angle to continue the lessons.

Ouch! sorry to hear about it. PHIL66 has been working through his own injury as well. I hope your friend does find a better angle to teach at. That is one good thing about using an Ibby, they tend to not weigh a ton. Share some vid of his single when you can

Let's hope it heals quickly, especially if it's preventing him earning an income. Is it not possible for him to set up the camera up so he can play in a normal position? Or maybe seated to let his leg take the weight?

I never saw him teach but my guess is he's probably getting close to the camera at times to show something in detail (like leaning forward etc.) during lesson. Considering he has around 5 students a day, those small movements slowly caused his current condition.

A lighter guitar would definitely help but yeah he has to setup a much better system for teaching as this covid thing will likely continue. Good thing is he also directs small budget video music clips so I'm sure he'll figure something out.

$850 gave me a bit of sticker shock. But it it is a very nice camera. I had no idea it would be that expensive though. It's top notch gear that's for sure!!

Any HD Handycam will have zoom function and a remote control which is what I use to do this type of thing. But mine certainly does not have the rotating base that this one does which is quite nice! But puts it out of practical range for my camera budget. Then again, some folks probably have much higher camera budgets. That price is about the same as a really nice DSLR which is what many folks are using now. I tried using a DSLR and just HATED it. There was no remote control zoom, and this one didn't have a flip around
screen. Handy cam lets you run real time video preview to your computer monitor. Not to mention, firewire HD handycams are dirty cheap. Cheaper than a really nice web cam these days.
