GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Guitar W/ A Bass Amp

Posted by: davaflava Jul 25 2007, 11:29 PM

I got a electric guitar and i asked my local music dealer if i could use a bass amp with a electric guitar. he said it was fine and i found out as well, but when i play the high note on the e string such as 18-21 it is very short and and hardly is hearable, so my question is should I get a guitar amp or do my pickups suck??

thanks

Sorry Davaflava but I can't see a bass amp being able to deliver the high frequency response that a guitar amp would for the higher end (ie e string frets 18 and up...).

Bass amp is frequency tuned/designed for a bass response and whilst you would get a cross over into the guitar spectrum its going to be weak at the high end and unlikely to be able to cut it. Oddly I know more people who do the reverse and have the same, and opposite issue, but often also blow the speaker with too low a frequency...

Sorry It's not more positive. Maybe try to get the guy to swop for a guitar amp...

Cheers,
Tony

what tony said basically sums it up.. a bass amp is made for the lowness of bass, therefore lower notes on your guitar will sound better, but the higher notes wont sound as good.. bass amps are better for dropped 7 string guitars.. thats what i found smile.gif
