GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Dream Theater Without Portnoy

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Nov 14 2010, 10:58 AM

Today's awesomehttp://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Dream-Theater-Another-Day-solo/by Zsolt - illustrates well why Dream Theater is such a cool band. It's got everything: smoothness, melody, experimentation, shred etc.

What direction do you think Dream Theater will take now that drummer Mike Portnoy has left the band? Will it affect their direction?

I wish that singer left instead of the drummer. Or maybe James Labrie can start playing drums and stop singing, which would be fantastic.

hahaha yes, let James go. just kidding,

I have the intuition that it would be a more progressive album, not that heavy, but who knows,

You have a point, Mudbone...wink.gif
I believe they will keep their direction, if I'm not mistaken Petrucci and Portnoy did most of the songwriting, now it seems like it's down to Petrucci, but I don't think this will change their style.

Hard to say really, although I think DT will still be releasing something mind blowing as always, it will be different without Portnoy, but I dont think that means it will be bad.

I agree whit The Uncreator. A change doesnt have too mean anything bad, but DT sure will be different.
Are there any there any auditions going on for a new drummer? ( not for me ofcourse ^^)
