My Ibanez goes out of tune way too easily when it is tuned lower then E standard. It has no locking system at all just normal stringing. If i put my guitar in D standard it'll go out of tune in no time. C standard? You've got no chance, in a matter of seconds it'll go out of tune. What can i do to keep it in tune?

Have you tried increacing the gauge of strings that you use? I find that 9's are very unstable when tuned to D standard, I find that 10-52 gauge strings are very stable at D standard. If it's not that I would say you have a problem with your tuners, or you could have possibly restringed it improperly, or you could be picking or bending too hard(not accusing you, just throwing out possibilities).

What model Ibanez? I had a friend that bought one of the cheapie Ibanez guitars and it wouldn't stay in tune for $#!% because it was just made out of crappy materials. But like I told him, you can't really expect much out of a bargain bin guitar.

Could be a number of reasons.

* As suggested earlier, if you got 009 change to thicker strings. up to 011-012 even. (where as you might get problems with the saddle but can't hurt to try)
* Try to see if the neck needs adjustment. Search for "trussrod" (or "truss rod") + "adjust" either here on Google.
* If it's a cheap guitar I bet the machine heads are cheap ones too. New expensive, quality (price should go hand in hand with quality...) tuners will do wonders to your guitar

And it would have helped if you had posted which model Ibanez you've got.

What model of Ibanez guitar do yo have? If it is a low price range model check out the tuners. Do you have a tremolo? What type?

Thanks for the reply guys.

As you've all predicted my Ibanez is one of the cheaper guitars. It's an RG321MH, only cost me £240. That was of course nearly a year ago. This is another reason why i want to get a new guitar but can't decide which. In all honestly all though at the time when i got this it was ok it's sort of put me off Ibanez guitars a bit

Ibanez Prestige models are excellent guitars. The simple truth to the matter is, you're not going to get terrific quality out of a lower end guitar, no matter what company makes it. I think most of the guitar companies have their bottom end guitars built by 8 year old Chinese kids or something. (Sarcasm) But I have heard the Squier Affinity series guitars aren't bad, and I've also heard the Yamaha Pacificas aren't too bad, either.

Hey man. I had a very low end Washburn, and then mid range epiphone and fenders. Finally, I have a top guitar and that happens to be an Ibanez prestige RGT 320Q. I tried top fenders and gibsons and I will probably buy them in the future, but this was the right guitar for me now.
Man, I just felt in love with this guitar. So playable, unbeliavable tone, and so on... Of course I go far from having your trouble. It has a double locking system, so I tune it and lock. For 2-3 days I make minor adjustments on micro tuning and then it does never detune anymore (unless temperature changes drastically)
So, my advice is: instead of thinking about the guitar you have right now, just go and play the guitars you are interested. Try different vendors, and discover what you want now.

Other advices:

1) Go to the guitar shop and try different guitars. Don't buy a guitar without testing it! Even if the seller shows, play it yourself. Test the guitar first without any amplifier, and then plug it into an amplifier close to what you have. Any guitar will sound way better on top amplifiers, but you will be misleaded by that.
2) Don't buy at the first time you go to the shop. Negotiate price or something.
3) Within time you will become more exigent. So, it is a good idea to get as much money as you can before buying a new guitar. Otherwise, you will be disappointed after some time and will regret you could have bought something a little better. It is also a nice idea to buy an "upgradable" guitar. One example, is a mid range guitar with good wood, but bad pickups. Later you can put good pickups and you will have a much better guitar.
4) Get as much information as possible before buying the guitar.

Hope this helps! wink.gif

Yeah i see your point and i do intend to get a new guitar hopefully soon the problem is i'm not sure what guitars i'm interested in. Well i do but they're just way too expensive. Nothings really jumped out at me yet. I predict in about a month or so i'll have about £500ish to spend maybe more. Yeah maybe i should go and try out all the guitars in my local music shop. Then again they don't really have many good ones

Nope no tremolo or anything. It's pretty much low end Ibanez. At least it beats my old copy strat though i used to think that was ok when i first got it but now it's awful lol.

yamaha pacifica is a great guitar i had one, changed out the pickup to a PAF Pro and it screams and had a really thin neck to play nice n fast on, had it for years but wore the frets down, and it be cheaper to get another one,

but to help with your ibanez get some locking tuners and lube to lube up your nut (where the sting goes from the fret board to the head stock) helps the string slide back to where it was, it helped my guitar stay in tune perfect so i could leave it unlocked

Yamaha Pacifica is a great beginner guitar, Slim neck, low action easy to play and chord with, but sounds like crap. Of course when you are a newbie at the guitar you don't know it sounds like crap until you go shopping for a new guitar and stat playing more expensive models. I still have my Pacifica I'm gonna throw some Seymour Duncan P90's in it one of these days and then have it to go along with my Ibanez.
