The GMC United Video Collab
We have decided to start a new collab which pays tribute to us, students and instructors - the GMC Community! As usual, Cosmin, Darius and Gabriel are the hosts and guides, so if in any way along the take submission period you feel stuck, please post your feedback in this thread or send us a PM!
This collab is based on Gabriel's http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Snow-Patrol/: Backing_Track.wav ( 7.27MB )
: 1767
Tempo : 100 BPM Key : A Major -------------------------------------------
In case anybody is wondering how to enter this collaboration:
1. Download the backing track and open it in your recording software 2. Record your part in the recording software and with your video cam (if you have the possibility to record video). You can record anything - a short fill part, rhythm based ideas, or a full lead part (solo). 3. Render one track containing your recording only - 16 bit wave file 44,1 kHz 4. Render one track containing both solo and backing track in an .mp3 format 5. Send us your video (preferably in .mp4 format)
As before, you can send us the last 3 files mentioned, using a dropbox link, or any other transfer service you are used to, by posting them in this thread or attaching them to a private message.
If you can't submit a video, you can send us only the audio files and some pictures of you - it will work out great as well! The more pictures you send, the better will it be for editing in the final video!
When attaching/sending the collab files, please include the source file of the video as well.
Needless to say IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER/ ADVANCED/ PRO/ GOD - all styles, approaches and all levels are welcome and you can even play just a short fill if you feel like it!
Bringing your contribution to this track and tribute to the GMC community is what really matters!
As in the previous collabs, we want this one to be as strong as possible, as this will give your playing and progress maximum exposure. So here's what we suggest:
Making short but polished and detailed lines will always give you better results. If you focus on a short part of the backing track, then you will most likely amaze yourself and others! No explicit need to play over the full backing track length, pick any amount of bars you feel most comfortable playing over.
It is always better to come up with something short but catchy or memorable!
Remember - the only thing we require is that you participate and be yourself - there are no rules, and no limits! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deadline: 28th of February

Easy, man, you just have to find the relative minor of A major. Count three notes down the scale: A, G#, F#. So, A major and F# minor have the same notes, so you should be able over it in F# minor pentatonic.

I really want to take part in these collaborations. I just need to get my confidence up. There is always something that puts me off getting involved whether it be my timing issues, theory knowledge, guitar tone, creating something good to play and recording. I always question what I am doing and make a excuse.I need to man up

This should be an interesting ear training exercise - why not start easy - on one string at a time - find the notes of the A major scale:
A B C# D E F# G# A right? And don't think in shapes Try to sing a simple melody in the beginning - in your head - and then apply it on the guitar.
What say you?

A bump from me and add my name to the list, hopefully this time I won't be lazy and enter the last minute

I'm also in! This track is simple and bright enough sounding that I think I will go for a more electronic and ambient approach with this one!

My video chat today focused on licks that would work with this backing. In case anybody wants to grab some examples or possible bits of chops to get going, here is the link to what we worked on Sometimes just getting started on a solo can be the hardest part.

Bleez - don't worry man - as You already had been said - You can use relative minor scale. all notes from F# minor should work in A-major. Even most of the licks - they will just sound - more happy ))
Like You See - You will get some support for collaboration in our video chats

Sounds fun
I'm in (even some short part), because there's enough time to learn something more and this kind of things motivates even more
I think that february is going to be great month for me and of course all of you guys and girls..maybe first REC and Collab for me....
Some problems with my PC lately, but I'm here and again and I think those windows issues are solved now (tons of bluescreens) maybe too many things at the same time...new drivers...softwares and testing ..how to make...video..audio...and crash bom bom but installed everything from the beginning and it's alive again...(it wasn't so easy ....but after some days...). It's always so "fun" to reboot after reboot and thinking... maybe next one is last one....or next one and then everything is ok....
Back to this collab...I'm in at least with some short part...maybe some memorable part...amazing...it's possible with so many ways but most important..it's fun and I'm going to enjoy for the process to find some sounds with my fingers on fretboard for this collab (with some Gab's help...it's easier)
Of course everyone can give some nice tips for this one and Cosmin already gave good tips..thanks!
We're gonna ROCK!!!

I already made my first test rec for this collab and I'm happy to get some honest feedback about it Tell anything you think about the sound, idea and everything. I'm a beginner, so I have many technical and speed limits for playing I'm in like I said before this is my first collab so I have to ask few things..can I make a few different parts for same collab or just only one? Still learning so many things at the same time with guitar training...recording (audio and video)...editing.. and try to find out some good sounds from my Boss GT-10..so many buttons and controllers. Any tips and feedbacks are good for me

Good take! you can make some different parts for the collab if you want, or only one, maybe in the video edit don't appears all your take for editing reasons but let us listen to all your creativity if you want. I remember my fights with imovie and still working in the tone and sound. Amazing trip!! i'll post my take soon!..............................................................
Ok! my take is here! i use my brand new copy of scuffhamamps for a fast and simple records. i hope you like.

Awesome first Collab take mate! It's great to see you evolving so fast in different aspects! I think that your take is very promising and we can use it this one and it would be ok! It sounds melodic and fits good with the backing. Now let's go with some suggestions to improve this one or the next ones. I think that you could continue working the melody, doing variations, improving the parts that are less defined if you want to experiment more with this backing. You can also give your playing more feeling, focus on vibrato, and some other techniques like slides, legato and bending. These ones gives our playing more life.
Regarding your tone, it's ok but I would experiment a bit more with EQ, to make it sound "bigger", it sounds a bit weak. You can experiment adding a tube screamer or sustainer to the tone before the amp simulator, and set the "amp" with less drive. Adding some delay to make it sounds bigger can also help.
As you can see, I give you some guidelines but the key is "experimenting".
Thanks for joining this one and congrats for your great job!

Thanks for the scale tips dudes Im almost turning into an internet meme: " I dont always play in A major............ but when I do I play in f# minor' Hey Darius, y'know the happiest thing I currently play is your alt picking 2 lesson, I really like playing it but if you do a follow up lesson may I suggest a much sadder / colder version
Posted by: Todd Simpson Feb 2 2014, 08:14 PM
BINGO!! Adding a boost of some kind in front of nearly any guitar sim can really make it PUNCHY and MEAN. I use a ProTone Bulb Deluxe Overdrive with very little gain, mostly volume and the attack switch. Any overdrive pedal will do. Tube screamer is always a great choice
Adding a pinch of delay is another great tip. Just a pinch, maybe set to 120milliseconds or so, and a touch of reverb can really spiff up a given patch. Great tips!!!

Very nice man As Gabi said, you should keep adding elements so that you will gain more dynamic in your playing. A short and sweet solo can make wonders so experiment with this one and let's see what things you can bring in Add one technique at a time - for instance, slides - focus on adding then in the take and we will see what stays and what goes, ok?

Thanks to everyone for good tips and encouraging words I'm going to test something today and then we'll see if it's better or just different
Nice one huargo! Few questions: Which Jackson model is your guitar..just curious... What's the purpose for that band on Guitar head near on the nut? Less noise or something like that or some other purpose?
How to get stronger and louder sound from GT-10, without needless humming especially..if my fingers isn't on the strings..when I use PC or anything else and of course something else than volume totally down...I mean the sound itself...or it's just the nature of this kind of multieffect way to make sound "stronger"

Hi Slow! my guitar it's a Jackson Sl3 it's a soloist made in Japan, nice guitar. The band it's a velcro to prevent noise contained within this type of guitar ... see that video, it's in french but you can understain because it's very graphic.. Maybe you need a noise gate to reduce the humm.. see in your effects list of the gt-10.... if you are recording the take in a pc some daws have this kind of effect too... seeyou!

Looking good guitar , I have much cheaper Jackson DX10D Dinky, but it's not a bad guitar for beginner
Thanks for video (it was ok) and it tells more to me than just if it's french text
I find out something like noise gate (Noise suppressor) options at least it filter out the noise when I'm not playing....with nice freeware software for GT-10 (FxFloorBoard).
I made something wrong with quote and editing...but it's maybe not a big problem

Hey there mate - nice and melodic take here! If you want to make it shine even more, I suggest you to try and link the main ideas in a smoother way - they sound like they are not that well tied together. I mean, think up some passing phrases that connect the main phrases without creating a sensation of just rushing into them

Great question!! The more of this story is one simple thing PERSISTENCE!!!!
That one thing is THE KEY To soooooo much in life.
WITH AND WITHOUT PAIN KILLERS:Crsn mentioned taking some pain killers and playing to the backing track. hmm. Well, there's that But essentially what you are hopefully trying to work towards is being able to get in that relaxed, "in the zone" state without the use of drink/drugs. Not just crsn of course, I mean everybody. Once you can find that place in your mind where your not doubting yourself, not judging what you are playing before you play it, just letting it happen. You are on your way
Todd

Posted by: Mertay Feb 6 2014, 02:14 AM
Not sure if this helps but sometimes if I can't find a start I think of an ending and use it as a start, its actually a simple mind game rather than musical approach
I mean, imagine as if this backing track is an outro rather than intro so you're only giving the finishing touches for a dramatic ending just hit the few notes or scales and there, you've already started
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 6 2014, 08:40 AM
I like the the way in which this discussion is going and to add my two cents:
1) To answer Gabe's question - the moral of the story is: buy your lady a video camera in order to have an excuse to make guitar movies
2) To get in the zone with music, is a matter of getting in the zone with everything you do As long as you can empty your mind and hear the music coming from inside you, you can do a great job. It sounds like a bunch of philosophical mumbo jumbo, but it's actually not.
The more you become aware of the 'mental noise' blocking your awareness to your inner voice, the more you will be able to push it away and create the silence needed to hear what you have to hear. It's like being in a crowded summer town and having a wide window opened. You hear ALL the sounds outside, but not your lovely girl who speaks to you in the room. Close the darn window and listen to the lady - ahaa, you can hear her clear now, right?
Here's Papa Het talking about getting in the zone: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=51272&pid=673756&st=0&#entry673756

Very original approach to composing but i dig it Very cool aspect of playing mentioned - different point of view can change either the lack of inspiration or the whole image of a composition in You head

It's always a good idea to look at things from every possible perspective - A lot of people just get jammed in the details, so that's why it's always good to post the takes here and ask for suggestions. You can never know how others see things - of course, in a way that can help you

That one thing is THE KEY To soooooo much in life.
Exactly! That's the moral.

1) To answer Gabe's question - the moral of the story is: buy your lady a video camera in order to have an excuse to make guitar movies
hahaha that's not a bad idea. Those auto presents are very useful.

Oddly enough, that's what the backing made me think of! It sounds to me like a intro for a kids ANIME like Ranma 1/2 Full Metal Alchemist or DBZ, along those lines.
For example.
I honestly thought that was your intent on the backing? After listening again, I think maybe it's the major key and chord progression that is giving it that vibe in the backing. That's why I liked it I'm a fan of Anime and Jpop so it worked out great!
Here is a vid with a bunch of Anime intros. I often play along with movies/anime/etc. Great way to practice while watching movies/tv

This time I have another hat Sweden rules!
Cosmin: If u could use the sound in the Soundcloud files instead of the sound in video it would be awesume! Cause the sound in the video sucks Can it be done?
I'm having a hell of a time getting something going for this. I'm with Bleez on the major thing, it's giving me a fit right now. Not so much with where to play but with what to play.

Thanks Cosmin. Apparently you are a mind reader. I've been trying to break out of the normal major shapes or sounds and work in a different feel here and there. Half bends up and down on the D# and on the G sound very nice in certain places as well, although technically you are bending to touch a 'normal' tone there. I'm going to play with that C and see what I can come up with.
Thanks again for taking the time.

Hey mate You got some cool phrases here! I'd take out a bit of the roughness tho - it's a bit too rigid somehow - maybe more bends and vibrato and definitely longer notes to make it sweeter

So many great versions and ideas for this collab.
My version is still incomplete, because it still needs some adjustments I've tested so many versions for this collab (my first collab)...now I'm thinking, just going to make some little adjusments to the version on first page because sometimes the first feelings are the best, maybe some kind of true instinct version.

Hey Jim! The beginning is very tasty and wisely played. When there comes the ending part I think that things get to much blurry - maybe just a bridge pickup on those low runs will do the job. Also...the reverb. Unfortunately it's a kind of "toilet verb" I would go for bigger room size and short decay / time. Good job anyway!

Hi guys and girls!
I'm curious to know some things about how you make your recordings for this collab.
Because, there have to be...one track just with guitar, one track guitar + backing track and video with all together and also source file of the video. Do you make those at the same time...or video later and then just. editing..editing and more editing?
How you make your videos: Which programs and how, just asking because I tried to do my version today and it wasn't easy at all. First I tried to make it real time, with Camtasia Studio 8 and problems to get the effect sound from Ezmix 2. Then I tried to make guitar + backing track with Reaper (it's also easy for me), but then I tried to make video in sync everything on three tracks..and it was very frustrating. One problems is also my ols laptop, because I think that sometimes it was the problem. Tomorrow I'll try to make some good tone with my GT-10, because these effect softwares are maybe too much for my old laptop.
It's easy and best if it's possible to get real time rec with three tracks: Backing track+ guitar + video and it's immediately in sync.
At least I think, my version is almost ready, just some problems to get it recorded with video in sync.
There isn't this kind of problems with REC, because you don't have to send each tracks separately.
So it's nice if some of you can tell more about, how you make your version...especially if you don't have amp with mic, because I don't have that kind of possibility right now.
How to make collab video and get those individual tracks for Dummies!
Posted by: SlowFingaX Feb 19 2014, 01:48 AM
Finally I got something ready and this is enough now
I tested Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (first time I used it)
Maybe better result with it if I use it from the beginning.
Everything else is ok, just that mp4 to Youtube was pretty small, but it's not problem, maybe next time a better one
So this is my version for this Collab and also my first ever!
I'll hope you can make something bigger and better with my Files!

The problem with the small image I think it's because you didn't made a setting I don't use Premiere but usually the settings are the same in many programs but... I checked for you in Premiere When you launch Premiere, you need to choose a Project Preset to begin a New Project. Typically, you want that preset to match the footage you will be working with, for instance "DV NTSC 4:3" or "HDV 720p", etc. All this settings depend on which resolution you record your movies. If you want to know what you have set in this moment in Premiere go to the Project Bin, (usually left pane of screen) and click on the "Sequence 1" item to highlight it, then go to the top menu and choose Sequence - Sequence Settings and look at the Edit Mode and this will tell you what type of project you are in
I use the usual Movie Maker I learned many tips and tricks very useful, so if you will use this program for video editing I can help you and I'm sure you will don't have any problems in future For advanced things I already started to learn Sony Vegas

Hi Monica!
Thanks for your detailed instructions. I just checked from Project Bin on it's (Sequence 01 1280 x 720), I made video with Camtasia with some settings...I don't know much about those resolution , but I have to check it before next time I'm going to test something with Premiere from the beginning, if it's easier that way
I still have Windows Vista on my old laptop and Movie Maker looks different as some intructions I found earlier and cannot get done anything with it. Of course it's also ok, if it's possible for this kind of editing
Just hope that editing is later for me a just easy and fast process and not 3-4 hours project for this kind of short videos!
I also made a little bit bigger version with some definitions.
But nice learning process and bigger version (no more my versions for this collab here after this one ) :

You're welcome, sorry that I can't help you more I saw that your video it's at 480x360. Probably when you export the video and you choose for MP4 format must be made an another setting. But I don't have any idea in this moment what new setting you must do
I don't know how looks Movie Maker on Vista but I guess it's not very different. I imagine how much time you tried. The single way to help you more, if you want you can send me the video file (but original video from the camera) and separately the sound file and I will put together for you when I get home with my video editing settings
Don't worry later will not take it so long, you will see It's just a little time until you will get used with the program

Thanks, I'll check this one. I'm not sure if this is possible with old Windows Vista Movie Maker, because it's little bit different.

I see you managed to nail everything, technically wise and also, that movie that jstcrsn posted should be of great assistance!
Thanks mate!

But nice learning process and bigger version (no more my versions for this collab here after this one ) :
hehehe epic solo friend!! Your composition sounds very consistent and you look comfortable in front of the camera. The audio and video quality are also very good for the collab. Thanks and congrats!

Thanks mate! It was very fun to make, just some problems with editing, but next time it's also easier for me.

Wellcome in the Collab! It's great You decided to try! The more You try the best results You have - it relates to audio-video editting as well. You already got some great tips. Monica pointed the importance of blank project settings when Your create it and then import the video. Most of us do it in the real time (there is too much wasted time on learning what You played to make the vid of the same thing ) For the final mix You don't have to mix audio from reaper with the vid. We'll do it anyway It's enough to launch the Reaper, import backing track pres REC on both - Reaper and Camera...and start to play When You're done You just make two mixdowns - use SOLO function on guitar track and second time - mix both backing and guitar track together.

Darius is right, plus - it's very difficult to mimic yourself... I tried it a lot of times in the past and it was nearly impossible in most situations..

Mimic yourself? No, you understood wrong. I record the video on my camera in the same time with the sound. After that I overlap the video with the sound. Will not be nothing fake or played after. All it's played and made it in the same time but in other way To overlap video and sound in the same time it's more than easy when all this are recorded together
BTW how I record, it's named also in the real time
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 20 2014, 09:21 AM
Haha! Monica, I was not implying that you are doing that I was just stating the fact that I've been doing it in the past because I was obsessed with the idea in which I couldn't get some things played the way I did the first time when I recorded something and I wanted them to stay that way But it was obvious - on the camera - that things were not recorded in real time
Posted by: Darius Wave Feb 20 2014, 09:48 AM
Agreed with Cosmin Nothing here sounded wrong I was just answering SlowFingaX question "how You do it...record audio and then record video of what You played, or You plaed everything in a real time?"
Cosmin just confirmed most of us record in real time because it's too many work to learn what You played to later "pretend" the same on the vid
I know what You meant Monica but no, we're not talking about replacing the audio with descent audio from DAW That's something good

Haha... Good that we cleared this things Mimic it's just a way to cheating yourself Because for this real time in my "video record day" I lose many hours to make a video for my taste I record until I like what I hear. That's why very often I look very tired in my public videos But all my takes for mentoring thread are made at first hand. Because I need to fix things and it's good to make mistakes and my instructor to see exactly how I am and which are the problems.

Hi Darius!
I'll think that next time I'm going to try this way, then I'm learning something new. Most important for me is that it's just simple and save many hours. and use more time for playing and less fixing with editing and mixing. Just have to find out some good and easy webcam software for this kind of recording situation. Because my laptop isn't very new (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8400 2,26 GHz with 3 MB RAM), these softwares have to be light for my computer, because then there's so many open at the same time. Rigth now I'm use Reaper, and tone from GT-10 or some effect software (Guitar Rig 5 or Ezmix 2). Just have to make some test recordings before next collab or my first REC.
Very intresting messages from all of you Darius, Cosmin and Monica, this was just what I expected, thanks!
I'll think that have to try different ways to make these and find out which is best for me and my systems.

SlowFingaX - Remember if You need any detailed help just ask Monica has a good point here - it's all about that You'll never cheat yourself and if You want to have clean, real time, live record You need to spend more time on practice and make more attempt to record it (even more practice here) so it has a good relation with Your overall progress

Another tasty take. I think that your composition is very melodic and fits very well over the backing. Thanks for your take!

Wellcome Ricardo and don't worry you didn't know about introducing yourself This is like a tradition and a good way to known more about each new member of family If you want you can make a new topic and make a longer introduction or you can leave it like this. If you have any question you can ask and everybody will help you. Also you can choose a mentoring program with any of the instructors you want: Cosmin, Darek, Gabriel and Todd We will see around forum
BTW you made a great take for collab

I'm really struggling with this track and coming up with something good. It has a sort of minimalistic feel that to me doesn't invite too much space for a guitar solo. But that may just be me.

I have the same struggling with this track. I can't feel myself in what I improv and this is not good This is why I always choose minor scales In major scale my improv sound like a song for babies

I sang the melody in my head, I listened the backing for 1000 times, I switch the instruments, I made the solo on my piano, I beat it the rhythm on my drum but not a good result It's hard to explain and maybe if I try will be a stupid thing. But usually when I hear a backing I feel something, now.... I like the backing very much but I don't feel that thing

Maybe worth trying to connect the melodic phrases with a bit of fast/shred runs, something similar like at 0:13 ; 0:25 ; 0:45 in this lesson : http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic-Soloing-Steve-Lukather-Style/ Changing pace of the solo and dynamics can have a dramatic effect.

Hey Ben! I like your take man I think you are fussing too much to be honest - the first half is very good, but maybe you could add some more dynamic changes in the second half - as Bogdan suggested.
We are FAR too prone on using the minor scale in our playing, if you ask me It's not about a style here, but it's about ear training If you listen to music involving major sounds - and it doesn't have to be baby music - you will get some great ideas Trust me!

Search in my playlist and if you will find a song in major scales I will give you a bax of beer I don't like how the songs sound in major scales. This is my musical preferences. Minor scale gives me a good and inspiring mood. The major scale will never create that dark-sad feel I don't know how to explain, I looking for a mood.... but this is my opinion and my taste. Really......major scale remember me about the Kelly Family songs, not for my taste I can improv in major scale but I don't like it. My improv for this collab doesn't sounds bad but it's not what I expect from me. So, it's not about ear training (in my case) here it's just about my taste. It's more than simple and this is not a campaign against major scale, was just my opinion about my preferences I don't need a medicine to treat my taste

Hey hey I got the idea You can't argue someone's tastes - I was referring to the fact that a lot of folks complain about not getting through with the solo, and the simplest way to do it is to 'borrow' licks/phrases from songs that contain major scales and make them your own

Pheww - this has nearly driven me insane... it seemed that just everything around me was trying to prevent me from being part of this collab... first that stupid cat that bit my thumb and when I finally thought that I was ready to record really strange things started to happen: either my computer suddenly stopped recording several times (of course exactly during those takes when I only made minor mistakes for a change...) or my camera magically changed position so there was only my jeans visible in the vid... or the cam stopped because the battery was low... or cam said it couldn't record because the memory card was full... or my son stumbeld into the room - but most of the time I just made some mistakes (I am always a bit nervous when I record - I know it's stupid ) But finally I'm done. The first part is just beautiful ! I'll add some verb or delay and it will be great - it's nice and smooth + i has good melody sense. I'm afraid that second part is a bit too week yet. Those runs need much more time spent on practice. Also I think You're playing very very soft. Try to play those runs harder so You will automatically get more sustain and better timming. Like Cosmin said - so notes become dead to fast...You might try to use more gain or...You can focus to keep the fingers on string as long as possible + avoid muting it randomly by the right hand.
Seen the take a few more times. Now I'm sure - Unfortunately Your playing is to soft in both cases - left hand legato as well. I might even think that this is the key to focus so You could progress further. Please post this vid in our thread so I'll help You setp by setp with each part

Great mate - keep us updated and as Darius said, building strength and stamina in the left hand is surely an important thing to take care of in the near future for you. Ben's Land of Legato series, are very good - why not start with the first one?
It's not perfect but I can't do it better And by the way: Despite all those stupid things that happened it was really great fun - thanks gmc!
Well that has to be really annoying when everything seems to turn wrong while trying to record Your stuff. Yes - this is happening...unfortunately very often but I'm glad You made it to deliver us such a nice piece of music Thank You

Ok, I know it is a bit silly, and I'm not completely satisfied with the end part, but this is what you get. I'll try to shoot some video tomorrow.
Urrriku San! You have some very Japanese sounding licks Nice! I dig diversity a lot, so what the hell - this is great!
Hey everyone! Today is thee last day Please make sure you send the materials to me in a PM preferably so that I may have a better view on who sent what
Hey Ulrik! Your take made me smile. I love it. It's pure happiness.

Hope this is useable. Thanks
There are cool ideas there. As Cosmin and Darius said, improving the tone and your bends would make this take much better. Try adding some effects like Darius suggested and also adding a overdrive pedal before the amp emulation (the pedal can be also emulated).
Give a try to the first exercise of this video. It's very useful for being practiced 5 minutes every day.

Low resolution video with audio.
But this one is 1440p HD, so if you can manage to mix this with the audio file please be my guest. If I use Movie Maker, I can not get HD.
I think this is great - it needs some polishing here and there, but otherwise, nothing to be ashamed of Sir, au contraire! Honored to have you on board!
Thanks Cosmin, Unfortunately because of jamming my index finger a couple of nights ago playing basketball , I am going to have to drop out of this one. Although the knuckle has gotten a little better, it is probably going to be a few days before I can play guitar again. I'll catch you guys on the next one.

The original modelling in GTR3 was done in conjunction with Paul reed Smith and they actually used some of his huge Amp Collection to base them on.

And the moment we've all been waiting for is here!! Theeeeee finaaaaaal mix!!
Big thanks to all of you guys for being a part of this and to the awesome team I am a part of and who worked their guts off to make things happen - Gabi, Darius and Bogdan!
As usual, here are our comments:
Cosmin
Mroberts: Hey Mark! Great to see you on this one, man! You had nice note choice and good direction! Keep rocking!
WRK: I love the preciseness of this take man. You are playing with a lot of confidence, great articulation and intention and that's a major plus for me!
Ricky9: A minimalistic approach that fits the track very well and complements wrk's take in a great way. Great going guys
WeePee: Mr. Ville and his spiders Pretty straightforward, as a metalhead should be - Melodic and exact are the words that go well with your take, man!
Ulrik and Taka Perry: This is an awesome combo! Ulrik's Japanese flavored licks which I am so thrilled about in a nice dialogue with Taka. I think Darius was very inspired to make this combination - don't you guys think so too?
TonyK: I like the long smooth notes you used man - it's a far better take than the one you first submitted and I am glad you went all the way and participated in the collab with an improved take! Thank you!
SpaseMoonkey & Nava: Yet another cool dialogue - great complementary note choice and phrases No wonder Darius matched the takes!
Sensible Jones: That little lick around 02:26 was a fine variation of the one before it and the tapping ending goes well with the take. Neil, you did a pretty fine job here, man!
Jim Seekford: A nice solo, big as a kid's smile with strong notes and nice articulation Glad you made it Mr. Seekford!
Procyon: You have a very energetic take man! A bit crowded in places but overall the energy you put in makes things sound very nice!
liveOASISforever: You and Gabi as a team! The ideas are very nice man, but as we discussed, you should keep focused on timing to grow as a musician and shine brighter and brighter in the following collabs as well!
Gregc1: Great tapped bends/vibrato here and awesome direction in phrasing! Kudos, Sir! Nothing else to add
Huargo: One of the nicest takes we have here in this collab! VERY inspired, articulated and well executed playing! Congratulations!
DeGroot: Finally, a wah wah take! Nice melodies and great playing. I also enjoyed the tapping lick as it flows so well within the take!
Jtscrsn: Hey partner It seems we ended up together, eh? I have to say that the note choice you had is great but you should work a bit more on the execution to make the phrase stand out better
Beat Zbinden: Always a bright shiny tone and well rounded playing! I especially liked the ending theme just before SlowFingaX's take!
SlowFingaX: So, you had a guest appearance in your take at the end, eh man? Thank you for bringing in your nice melodies on this collab!
Mertay: Wow! What a punch in the face! The blistering playing just melted my face! You're a very technical player man, I have to say, but don't forget to bring in a little melody next time as well
Darius
Mroberts70 - Due to some technical issues I had to use Your mono track but I hope You enjoy the solution I found for it It was a nice solo and I couldn't let it go wasted
Wrk - very tasty playing. Love Your articulation and strong right hand playing man!
Ricky9 - good phrasing and taste. Perfect fit for the song introduction. This could easily be a decent vocal line as well. Well done
WeePee - I know You're a metal fan but You handle less heavy genres very well too Thank You for participating. Your add brings something very cool to this collaboration. Tip - watch out for those Gilbert's semi alternate picking speed runs - those could be slightly more precise. Nice tone BTW!
Ulrik - ha ha ha! Man that was definitely something new Though You tried to make a dialogue with yourself, I thought You will sound great having conversation with Taka
Taka - Great idea to keep thing simple and melodic. That's the most important thing before adding any licks and trick. Your line could easily work well with any other part of instruments
Tonyk - huge progress since the poor puppy collab. All - concept, execution and tone are improved a lot. I'm happy to see You making the progress. You have focused to keep the solo have sense as a one solid piece, not just a pack of random notes. We spoke about a few tips to make it more fluent and it was only detail to polish Your concept. Very good job. Our next step would be to work on Your playing strength, so You could pull out more juice of that cool crunchy distortion.
Spasemoonkey - What I like in Your take is that it has order and focus on what exactly You would like to play. You had pretty nice take for the previous collab as well but this time is more tight and wisely arranged Good job!
Nava - Welcome to our good friend and a REC-star Very happy to have You on the participants list. You haven't been there for quite some time and it was a shame because You always brought a piece of good playing. You compensate ti with this take so we forgive You Hope to see You on next collab!
Sensible Jones - Seems like Your pc gear issues are gone. Hope it's forever. Warm and pleasant tone, good lines, smooth execution. I also noticed that You got rid of some of Your blues-rock habits just for this collab purpose. You played less, kept patience between notes changes and gave Your solo very peaceful mood. Thank You Neil
Jim Seekford - You were step before me while writing about the reverb issue, already in the collab take premiere moment:) You know everything that's needed so I won't continue the "reverb-thing" Refreshing melody and nice usage of "pre-notes" like the the D# to E which is indeed outside of the scale but at this particular moment it's used properly and doesn't create dissonance feel. Good job. I think We should consider some workshop for Your constant, regular tone research if it's possible of course.
Procyon - Welcome aboard man! Nice concept for a solo. You have some potential and it sounds cool for the listener. I think You could try to bring Your solos into pieces and try to make sure about all the rhythm values inside. I had a feeling of "swimming timing" and at some points a little pitch issues but you know - just some details that when fixed, will bring Your playing to another level
LiveOasisforever - patiently and wisely play, melodic part. Good choice to make music instead of trying some stuff You feel not comfortable with. Timing needs some fix but I'm sure just a little more time spent on polishing what You already did, and things will go perfect
Gregc1 - Always something tasty for our ears. You always had great dynamics and articulation as well as ability to arrange those 2 aspect with a good phrasing. Well done mate!
DeGroot - So You decided to make something new? This time with wah wah?. Again perfectly fits the track. Also will repeat myself but I really enjoy Your new tone. New mic purchase was a great step
Jstcrsn - great to have You with us! Congratulations on Your first collaboration Nice 80's tone! Cool concept for a solo but you know it need some workout in two fields - timing and tightness. It's mostly about knowing exaclty what happens in every single moment of the solo = being able to name the rhythm values etc to focus on better sync with the beats But this is just a beginning and I know You didn't show us all You can by far
Beat Zbinden - we spoke before so You basicaly know what I think. Very good take. I think I would be a producer of a pop-rock band playing this song, I will allow this solo to be on the album. Very melodic, musical and everything on it's place
SlowFingaX - I'm glad You made it to join us even with some technical issues before I like that You decided to lead a melody even if You used some dense playing at the beginning. Nice introduction to all people who follow GMC. Hope to see You in our next collaboration
Mertay - At the beginning I though I would kick You in You very tigh place First of all - You almost burned out the neck Second I'm not sure if You were recording at low volume or it was THAT MUCH A PURPOSE but in the background there really where some notes that restricted those are for a major mode and a few of it's variables but..I though I would do something special for You and I've changed that piece of backing All best to You mate
Gabriel
Mroberts: I was sure that one that I was going to see you playing on tv! Hehehe. Your playing is always catchy and with very good feeling. I’m missing our Vchat jams and that Satch vibes that you get when you improvise. Thanks for your take and for opening this great collab!
WRK: Hi friend! You solo is fantastic. It has lots of phrasing techniques that makes the idea very interesting. You combine phrasing with fast legato licks, slides, double string licks, and a killer vibrato. Great job! Keep on working.
Ricky9: You definitely did a great choice of notes for your solo which is melodic and tasty. Your playing is very tight and the only thing that I would mark is that your vibrato technique could be more consistent and sometimes wider. Thanks for your take!
WeePee: Nice looking LTD! Your take sounds very good. It has a good balance between faster licks and melodies and everything is played tight, with good energy and feeling. Top level! Well done.
Ulrik: As I said in before in the thread, your take is pure happiness. Every time it starts I smile! I love the effect that you used, it sounds very oriental. I notice your playing tighter and more defined, and off course very creative. Congrats!
Taka Perry: Your solo sounds very good and interacts perfectly with Ulrik’s oriental melodies. As always both your tone and video have great quality. Thanks for joining!
TonyK: That’s what I call a melancholic solo! The way you manage bends, vibrato and dynamics give me a very deep feeling while I listen to your take. You are telling something with your phrasing, I can get it. Well done mate!
SpaseMoonkey & Nava: Hey guys! It’s great to see you playing together thanks to the magic of GMC collaborations! I can notice a connection between your playing and compositions, both fit great and that’s why I think Darius had the great idea to combine both takes. Well done guys! (and Darius!)
Sensible Jones: Your take sounds very nice Mr. Jones! Good combination of phrasing with tapping licks. The first section has a very good feeling, precise bending and warm vibrato. The tapping section sounds perfect. Good job!!
Jim Seekford: I really enjoyed your solo. I think that your solo is simple which is not a bad thing and it’s played with many expression details like slides, vibrato, bends that make it sounds very interesting. Thanks for joining!
Procyon: It’s awesome how good your solo connects with the previous one. I like your composition and technically it sounds perfect. You are a very good player! Keep on rocking.
liveOASISforever: Hey friend! It’s been great to share the solo section with you! Your playing still needs to be polished but there are some great ideas there. Keep on the hard work!
Gregc1: Hi Greg! You are an amazing player! Your solo reminds me a bit to Brian May. Your phrasing and your technique are top level. Congrats!
Huargo: Hi friend! Congrats on your playing! You have a very good alternate picking technique, very precise and the same happens with tapping. It’s a very enjoyable solo, well done!
DeGroot: The great DeGroot rocked this one! Your playing is top level! Just by listening to your vibrato technique we can say that this is a killer guitarist. And let me say I love what happens starting from the tapping to the end. Congrats and thanks!
Jtscrsn: Hi friend! There are some good ideas there that I think that need to be polished yet, but combined with Cosmin playing the results is cool. Thanks for joining!
Beat Zbinden: Every time I edit one of your videos I say, that’s a great place to practice! Your solo sounds good, it’s very well played and interact great with SlowfingaX take. Thanks!
SlowFingaX: Hi mate! Great to see you on this collab! Your solo is simple but effective. Good selection of notes and very tight playing did the trick. Well done!
Mertay: You are developing a very good technique, and being able to play very fast. But don’t forget to train your ears and listen more instead of playing more. Darius had to change the backing track’s progression to make your solo fit, and the final result is ok but I think that you can be tighter with the progression. Thanks for your take!
THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN EVERYONE! Now, let's make the Garry Moore Collab AT LEAST as epic as this one!!

And again thanks for taking the time commenting I readed the comments and to be sure would like to ask; did you guys find the solo (with original background) dissonant or was it about too hard finding a place to fit in the collab. musically? cause if dissonant although I didn't use any pen and paper (no idea at the moment what scale or mode I was doing to with chord) I would very much like to discuss about it

Bravo everybody, takes and the mix sounded great!
I have to say though that by far the best part was Todd and Darius at the end. Pure gold!

Congratulations everybody!! The final result is amazing. One of the best collabs ever at the site. I enjoyed doing this one a lot because there were lots of great takes, with tasty playing. And everything together really makes sense. Well done guys!!

Well, Darius will give you more details because he changed the backing for your take, but it seems that you were using a different scale and it didn't fit well over the backing. This backing is in E major, what scale did you use?

Didn’t noticed Ricky9 was sitting next to me, but he seemed comfortable .. Ricky, you are always welcome to jam again on my canapé
Thanks for the collab, comments and the final mix !

Mertay - there were conflits - especially at the moments with G# in backing track. You based Your solo on phrygian + harmonic minor modus and at some spot the second guitar in background, G# in bass + strings section made a disonance. I'll try to bring You detailed explanation later with particular notes colision. But don't worry...there is always a solution
Posted by: Mertay Mar 20 2014, 02:32 PM
Ok I have to take out my pen and paper I'll return soon but just to be sure; The (edit; root) chords are A-E-f#min.-D-A right?

Ha ha ha! What a cool thing to see A couch invitation So...do You have the same one in Your room ?
Posted by: Darius Wave Mar 20 2014, 03:29 PM
Yep...I'm not sure why Gab wrote E-major when it's A-major... or E mixolydian mode so we have
A B C# D E F# G# A

Wow, it's finally here!
Great mix guys! Of course I'm in on the next one, there's still time for some blues!
I'll hope that the next collab recording is easier for me, after I got some good tips from you my friends!
This is so fun! Good work by all, we ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I'll post again when I figure the scales I did probably I heard chord based rather than tone (seems I started flamenco then turned ethnic somewhere along the shred )

Yah...the devil possessed you for those few seconds
But I think it has a good side. Your solo was perfect for ending part and the mood change has brought a refresh to all mix. So for me it's nothing bad at all

Awesome work, guys! And very special thanks for your feedback - I appreciate it very much! @ Darius: Yes, timing is not perfect in my take - but it seems that for some reason my take is played a bit too fast in the final collab so that it does not match the beat - this is different in my original take. However, thank you all for your great work - I am really honored to be part of this!

The ending is perfect!! It's an ANIME POLKA POLISH STOMP!!!!! Digging it Super congrats to everyone especially those putting it together for making it all work. Mertays solo was a great divergence from the main them so it's fortuitous it was actually played in an entirely different scale so that it required a new backing mod. Making all these solos fit musically is quite a challenge and the creative way you guys made it all work is impressive.
This is one for the books to be sure!!
Todd

Ok I (think) figured out the problem after analyzing the scale on 2.nd chord, I changed and "imagined" a follow-up chords
Turning the E into E7 (the D is added in the solo but is a very high note) then and imaginative A/E chord before f#m thats how I managed to place a g and Bb note in an E chord, then the f#min. chord turned into a Dmaj7 (again D note is added in the solo) as a resolution to the A/E chord
Probably thats why I don't hear it as dissonant but I totally recomposed the backing track during the melody writing process

As usual, here are our comments:
Cosmin
Sensible Jones: That little lick around 02:26 was a fine variation of the one before it and the tapping ending goes well with the take. Neil, you did a pretty fine job here, man!
Darius
Sensible Jones - Seems like Your pc gear issues are gone. Hope it's forever. Warm and pleasant tone, good lines, smooth execution. I also noticed that You got rid of some of Your blues-rock habits just for this collab purpose. You played less, kept patience between notes changes and gave Your solo very peaceful mood. Thank You Neil
Gabriel
Sensible Jones: Your take sounds very nice Mr. Jones! Good combination of phrasing with tapping licks. The first section has a very good feeling, precise bending and warm vibrato. The tapping section sounds perfect. Good job!!
Thanks Cosmin, appreciate your comment!! Thanks Darius! Yeah, hopefully the PC is all sorted now, in fact I've just bought it a present of some new software which I will install if it behaves itself!! It had better behave as I've just spent a lot of money on these new softwares!! Thanks for the comment Gab! I truly appreciate when you guys support us!! Thanks for putting this whole thing togwther!!

Thanx for response mate. I'm not sure how could this happen. When I do the sync I always work on max zoom literaly matching bit to bit. I'm, sorry if really something went wrong but anyway thanx for participating!
