There's this lick that a lot of guitarists use and I really like the sound of it but I just cannot get it. I'm sure you've all seen it...

It's like the world's most simple lick but when I start to play it fast I always end up pulling off on the G string by accident and get the open note ringing while I do the other 3 notes. It's ridiculous, I could play it no problem if it weren't for that freaking bend! I see people doing that very lick twice as fast as me and I know that I don't suck this much!!

How do you keep that freaking thing from ringing out when you play it at shred style warp speed?

If you want an example of what I mean check out the solo to Bodom Beach Terror.

Edit: Also I normally bend down on the G string, as in towards the floor, but it's pretty impossible with something like this so I do it the opposite way. If you think that has anything to do with it... there ya go.

You have to mute the G string with your left hand, it's usually with first finger, depends on your technique.
You will have quite a lot of these kinds of problems and you will experience them in dozen licks, so it's good to work it out! smile.gif

Bend the g string up not down! And also use your middlefinger for the bend and your ringfinger for the pulloff on the the b string.
Also let your index finger stick out when you are fretting the b-string. Let it stick up to the g-string so that it touches it slightly enough to mute it.

While you are fretting the 14th fret with the index finger, the trick is too touch the G string slightly, so you mute it. Then do the lick again. Of course, make sure that you rehearse it on slow tempo, so the bend doesn't break that easily.

Muting with left hand index finger, or picking hand with your palm works too, Depending on what is more comfortable for you.
And start practicing the lick on slow tempo, and rise the tempo slowly, patiently.
Don't try to play it faster until dig it perfectly on slower tempos . . .
