GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ 81! I Finally Did It!

Posted by: purple hayes Apr 14 2011, 10:57 AM

It took over 2 years to do it, but I finally passed my 81st REC take.

Time to take a breather. Maybe go outside and see if the sun is still there. : lol:

A big thanks to Skennington and Fran for their work on the REC and all the instructors for grading my lessons. Thanks to Kris for making GMC awesome.

Wow man, congrats! smile.gif

That's a huge accomplishment!

I learned that lesson, but getting it up to speed isn't happening any time soon.

I'm closer to learning http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/string-skipping-lesson2/. It doesn't have those crazy fast runs.

Congrats Purple!

I'm following in your footsteps and only 43 behind you! It's been very worthwhile so far. Setting a goal of 80 is attainable, I think, but your accomplishment in just two years speaks volumes for your persistence and discipline. Not to mention, the level of difficulty of the lessons you have been pulling off lately. Wow! Great work. Take a break & celebrate the accomplishment for sure, but we are looking forward to hearing more of your playing in the future.

It is a very impressing accomplishment, considering the quality of your takes. On average just over a week per lesson for over two years.. Big respect to you! smile.gif

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

I've got a couple more videos that I'm working on, then I'm going to take a little break.

Big Congrats Purple, you are our very first Ultimate Guitar Hero, and you certainly deserve it smile.gif
Your takes are awesome and inspiring!

I believe we will need to create a brand new XP level for monster players ike you to grind! cool.gif

Wow! That sounded great! You are an inspiration to a "weakling smurf" like me. Just curious though, are you saying this is your 81st REC within two years? Congrats!

Well, it's my 81st passing lesson in a little over 2 years. I had a couple of failures along the way (4, I think). I re-posted passing takes on 3 of them and will hopefully post a passing take on the 4th soon.

Hang in there, smurf. Practice every day and ask questions in the forum when you get stuck. You can PM me directly if you want to.

Posted by: Kristian Hyvarinen Apr 16 2011, 08:27 AM

Too bad I still don't see the title Ultimate under your name here in the forums... won't believe till I see it. laugh.gif

I've been thinking of doing this same thing (to get good and be recognized by doing REC after REC after REC) but I've come to realize the way for me is probably going to be a reverse of that - first I'll train my technique and playing skills to the top (wherever I can be contended, still looking) using mainly exercises and freestyle jamming and then I'll get to know all the variety of styles and tips GMC has to offer.

I think both of these are methods that take patience and hard work. However, I do think it's possible to get good any way, as long as you keep playing.

Posted by: maharzan Apr 17 2011, 05:00 AM

Yup.. Patience is a must. The more you play the better you will get, thats for sure.. BUT, you will need to practice harder lessons each time. There was a time while I was back at school. I was like one of the best guitarist back then. I could play hotel california god damn it. smile.gif And then, there were these kids who hardly strummed chords. Every year passed by and I was like, what, they got better and better and I am stuck with the same thing? Obviously, they practiced lot with licks from Metallica and what not (I wasn't into that).. so you know what the lesson is here. smile.gif

You will eventually get there. 2 years is a lot of time. I initially joined here thinking 1 year is long enough to master speed and theory but its been 2 years now, still haven't got there. smile.gif

Posted by: Kristian Hyvarinen Apr 17 2011, 07:09 AM

Dunno about theory, but you should know that your speed is WAY out there. laugh.gif wink.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Apr 17 2011, 06:16 PM

That's a monster achievement, I congratulate you sincerely! smile.gif

This is the proof that love towards guitar, patience, consistence, and strong will - eventually pay off. Way to go mate! smile.gif
