I am Russian who lives in Latvia. So I will write about bands from both countries smile.gif

Latvia
Well, I don't know much about Latvian music, but some bands are pretty awesome here smile.gif
My favorite band would probably be Prāta Vētra (Brainstorm). Here is the most popular song of them, but you should check out some more smile.gif

Here is Latvian pagan metal bands that might be known abroad as they were in Wacken 2008 smile.gif
Skyforger

Here my knowlege in Latvian rock and metal ends biggrin.gif

Russia

There is a very big rock scene in Russia and I don't know if at least one band is known abroad. Probably not...
The band wich introduced metal to me and was the first music I was intrested in is Aria. It is very popular band in Russia. They play Heavy Metal. They singer left the band and started a solo career. Here is the video with new singer.

Here is the video of their old singer's solo stuff smile.gif This song is a big hit here.

Gorky Park was a great band and if I am not mistaken they are well known abroad smile.gif

King and Jester (Король и Шут) play horror punk, recently they released an album in the genre wich they call art punk smile.gif
(Perhaps there will be too many videos in the post, so I will post links)

This is a band i dont think many know about but i really liked them

Posted by: Sickz666 Aug 17 2011, 08:46 AM

As for sweden i don't know really..
I'm sure we have alot of death metal bands that are pretty unknown, since death metal together with power metal are our main music (Well, that i like).

Great Prog-power metal band called "Moonlight agony".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAJ2MKYXT48

Then a band that is pretty well known but deserves WAY more recognision than what they got is of course our band Meshuggah, great Extreme-prog band. smile.gif

Posted by: Qenzoz Sep 26 2011, 05:42 PM

Hatesphere

Mnemic

DAD - Somewhat popular in some other countries than Denmark, but they're pretty popular in Denmark, they're said to be our biggest rock band

Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - They were Denmarks biggest rock band once, before they stopped, and pretty popular in Japan

And I know two other bands too, but they only sing in danish, and its mainly like comedian-ish music, if you want to check them out it is Red Warszawa and De Nattergale, anywho my favorite band from this list is Hatesphere smile.gif

Posted by: Ulrik Sep 26 2011, 06:00 PM

Eventhough you might not understand Danish, this Red Warszawa video is enjoyable

and one of my favorites bands

Here is a press release about Atlanta Band MASTADON. They are doing a record signing at a killer local record store called CRIMINAL RECORDS which is sadly going out of business. They recorded at a huge studio here in town called DOPPLER which is also circling the bowl so to speak. Can't blame them for going the "Label Route" but it looks like it's just bad timing. Most of the indie record stores, high budget studios and indie record labels around here are going out of biz.

Here is a link to some info

They recorded their first demo, (as I mentioned before) where my old band GNOSTIC recorded their first demo, Led Belly Studios. So if you are ever in Atlanta, call Matthew @ LedBelly! he is one of the few guys here in town who really knows how to make a band have baaaaaawwwwwwwwllllllllzzzz.

Posted by: Dinaga Sep 27 2011, 09:36 PM

I won't write much, I'll just post two songs I really like from my favorite band of former Yugoslavia: Indexi.
Enjoy smile.gif
