I know those little Dunlop Jazz III's are a favorite among shredders. Many of the fastest guitarists of all time use or used them. I know that getting a strong pick with as little give as possible is a plus for light speed shredding. Rusty Cooley uses a pretty large extra heavy Dunlop. Shawn Lane’s favorite was the small Jazz III’s, which I think he said was the fastest he could find. They’re pointed at the tip, which provides a lot of attack that some players don’t like as much as the picks with rounded ends.

Honestly, in my opinion, I don't think there is anything less important than what picks you use. I've never really cared about what picks I use, but I mostly use this one Dunlop pick I found(on the ground laugh.gif ) with a Tiki guy on it, it's like .73 I think. But I've used picks with guages ranging from .50-1.14, most of the are Dunlop picks though.

Yeah, the shredders guys usually go for medium to heavy -this is also a good thinknes to get the nice pinch harmonics. Me, I use the dunlop.73 but I'll use a tad thinner too, I'm more of an all purpose player and do a lot of chording. I keep a big pile of them of all shapes, brands, and thicknesses.
Just when you get too thin, you start to geta flappy sound. :smoke

I lost a speed training pick that I really liked - never replaced it for some reason..

The pick has a special design: a diamond shaped tip that only allows the very tip of the pick to play the string - catch too much pick on the attack and the pick gets snagged up on the string.

It's a training pick. Supposed to build speed by encouraging only the use of the very tip of the pick in a consistant attack.

Anyone have any experience with this tool? I'm having trouble building up speed.
