Hey!
I've been lurking around and hunting down some guitars on ebay. I have no way of getting these at a shop nearby, so your input will do for now on
The ones are:
Peavey Wolfgang vs. Wolfgang special ---------- Differences? I see the differences in regular maple fretboard, flattop, and non-pearloid tuners. What else? Anyone have experiences?
Then we have:
Music man Axis vs. Axis Super sport------------ Kinda the same differences here, adding different bridge. Experiences?
The high-ends of these go for about 1500-2000 USD depending, and the "Low-end" go for about 500-1200 USD.
Thoughts?
Hey! I own a Musicman Axis Supersport, have had for maybe 2 years. I love it the way it plays feels sounds everything. I have the piezo bridge too which is cool, the only thing i find is the 9v battery doesnt last too long. Other than that no complaints. All i can recommend is trying them out, my mates arent fans but i guess everyones different.

Well I know the another difference for the Wolfgang and the Wolfgang special is a tone knob as well... Other than that I don't really know.
This one is not an option? http://www.music-man.com/instruments/jp_6.php
whatabout the difference with birdseye maple vs. regular maple? difference in feel, maintenance etc?
Do you think there is big difference in archtop vs. plaintop?
Hey! My Musicmans has birdseye maple, real smooth never flet anything like it. As for maintenance i use a luthiers fretboard condition whenever i change my strings. Keeps everything nice clean and smooth.

I don't know about the Axis but I have a wolfgang and have previously done lots of research about them so can help if you have any other questions
The wolfgangs have three different models that are all now discontinued and can't be bought new.
There is:
The Peavey Wolfgang Special Korean model - (This is ALWAYS with a Quilted maple top, and doesn't have the burnt in EVH signature on the back of the head stock and does not have a tone pot)
The Wolfgang Special USA - (this one has either a quilted top, a flame top or just coloured. Doesn NOT have a tone pot but does have a EVH sig on the back of the headstock)
The Wolfgang Standard USA - (This one has both the tone and volume knob, and the EVH sign Burnt into the headstock. This is the easiest model to indentify on ebay as it has Mother of pearl styled tuning knobs and has a contoured body.)
The wolfgangs all range in quality, the worst being the Korean model. Don't spend more than £300 for this model.
The Special USA is worth a bit more, as the wood quality and body build quality is much better. But don't pay more than £700 for this model.
The Wolfgang standard is what I really would like to buy, and there are plenty of custom shop versions avialable on ebay so the design varies. It's still easy to note though as the body is contoured and the guitar has a tone pot.
Hope this helps
I have the korean model and have loved it for years, only now deciding its quality is pretty poor. It's fantastic for high gain solos and high output pickups, but turn on to that clean channel and don't expect anything good.
The better models may have a much better sound, but I haven't played one to give any experience on. I want one though!
I really don't know much about differences between Axis and Axis sport,
I have Axis with birdseye maple neck etc, feels good and sounds good.
