Hey GMC just wondering who your favorite guitarists are. Mine are zacky and syn, paul gilbert and matt tuck.
Mine would be Angus Young, Mark Tremonti and Zakk Wylde. I can't pick between them
I am just listening to my favorite: Jimmy Page.
Next spots would be Slash, Kirk Hammett and Augusto Licks.
Jimmy Page, EVH
currently... Andy Timmons
Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Neil Young, Buckethead, me
Wata of Boris
Lots of them are cool, too much to write. Each one is great in its own way.
Mikael Åkerfeldt and Paul Gilbert are my favourites. Fredrik Åkesson is great aswell, but I can't really see him as a favourite since I've only heard Watershed and some Krux stuff with him.
Morello, and this guy from Macedonia,Vlatko Stefanovski heres link to his magic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK4JYkWZqS0&feature=related
Clapton, SRV, Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert, Lavendell, Guthrie Govan, and many more ofCourse
<<<<<<<<<<this guy
My favorit is Luca Turilli
Mr. Mark Knopfler
I must say I have had my ears opened to so many great guitarist since I joined GMC. Vai, Petrucci, Satch, Lynch, Gilbert and the list goes on not to mention our very own instructors. My list of faves is growing steadily that's for sure, but my tops are still Morello and Page.
rok
JP!
EVH
EJ
Andy Timmons, Guthrie Govan, or Greg howe..
Amazing to say the least.
SRV and John 5
Dave Murray of Iron Maiden, His sense of melody and technique are just superior to everything, He is the one who made me pick up guitar, and he is the one who makes me want to keep on getting better.
David Wallimann of GMC, that dude is amazing.
mine would be Eddie Van Halen. Classic.
Favourite song writer who plays guitar: Billy Corgan
Most impressive guitarist: Steve Vai
Favourite guitarist: Paul Gilbert
I am going to have to go with Alex Skolnick, Adrian Smith, Jon Schaffer and as for a flavour of the week ... Steve Lukather
Haha, I love Janick's solos, Especially in 'Fear Of The Dark'. He has a very edgy style that I like
Whosever the best in Maiden, Janick is definatly the most entertaining one on stage . About my favorite guitarist I think it must be this:
Songwriting - Mikael Åkefeldt of Opeth : For writing kick ass riff which really grooves while he also used cool and often jazzy chords that really is one of the bottomlines of Opeths unique sound.
Technique - Jeff Loomis of Nevermore: Simpely for having a mindblowing technique while he still remains in a real band, write good music and doesnt overdo the shredstuff and shows of in countless of videos like all the other famous ones at his level.
My favorite overall: http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/dustinb2007/necrophagist_1.jpg of Necrophagist: For playing all insane riffs throughout whole songs WHILE singing. He is just a genius at guitar and genius at growls, while he looks like nerd from your collegeclass
Joe Satriani, Buckethead, John Petrucci, Andy Mckee (in no particular order). I could never decide between them.
(in no order at all)
Slash
Marcus Lavendell
EVH
JP
JIMI HENDRIX!!!!!!!!!!! (only one other person put him)
David Walliman
all GMC instructors
I should probably add Marcus Lavendell to my list.
Dave Murray in the 80's (Just fan of Maiden up to Seventh son...)
Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest)
Kirk Hammet up to And Justice...
Randy R.
Ritchie Blackmore as a musician and melodic solos.
Eric Johnson with Deep Purple 90's 00's
J. Petrucci
Chuck Schuldiner \m/
Rest in peace
I'm gonna go with two guys somewhat out of the ordinary. I've always liked them though, don't really know why:
Dan Rock and Brian McAlpin from Psychotic Waltz.
Besides those two:
Jason Becker and Marty Friedman.
To name only one, not easy but it would be Allan Holdsworth.
Cheers,
Tony
There are quite a few who are my favourite, which are as follows:
Kirk Hammett
Marty Friedman
Paul Gilbert
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Yngwie Malmsteen
Your list of guitarists are great!
I want to mention
Neil Young,
who's been a huge inspiration to me - not because of great technique (by all means, no!), but because his Tone and Feel (and Volume) is mindblowingly awesome!
Kirk Hammet and Slash. Original : D
I no particular order here
Paul Gilbert
Eddie Van Halen
Marty Friedman
Marcus Lavendell
Jon Schaffer
Dave Murray/Adrian Smith
Though there are plenty that i've thought were good- i'd say my favourite four are:
Guthrie Govan
Muris
John Petrucci
Paul Gilbert
That's not in order though- i like all their playing equally
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qieWH_cVdk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dNxshHlp4w , Yngwie Malmsteen, Dr Brian May
think I have to answer Guthrie Govan on that question
Steve Lukather, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mike McCready, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Allan Holdsworth.. Just to name a few.. But it's impossible to pick my favorite guitarist cause they are all good in their own ways and styles..
So many to pick from, SRV and Page are two that come to mind
Well.. hm.. i have way too many favourites But if i were to pick 2 that has really made an impact on me, then it's Kirk Hammet and John Petrucci
I've got loads of favourite musicians (!). But as far as a guitarist I'd have to say Teppei Teranishi from Thrice. He's just... well, my favourite. Good riffs, nice variation and great songs. As far as vocalists, don't get me started!
Really hard decision, tons of outstanding players out there!!
But there is one who made huge impact on me
and always brings nice memories when I'm listening to him
Mr. Knopfler
way too many to list for me, but lately its been Warren Haynes, Gary Moore, Mark Knopfler, Joe Bonamassa, Slash, and Jimmy Page.
Steve Vai, Kiko Loureiro, John Petrucci, Eklundh, Govan, Friedman...
Mine would be myself nah joke...Matthew Tuck, Michaelangelo Batio, Alexi Laiho
My favourite guitarists of all time are: Reb Beach, Robert Marcello, Yngwie Malmsteen, Andy Timmons and George Lynch. Those are my top 5, Reb is my favourite, I just love the guy!!
Marcus Lavendell, Emppu Vuorinen of Nightwish, Dave Murray of Iron Maiden, Yngwie Malmsteen, Muris Varajic.
After Lavendell, there's no particular order
Emppu and Dave....Fantastic picks
Kirk Hammet, Dave Mustaine, Herman Li, Dimebag Darrell, and Zakk Wylde to name a few.
well as I said Zacky Vengeance and Sinister Gates. Alex of Black Tide and Matt Tuck o and almost forgot Paul Gilbert.
I always liked Brian Hanor ( synyser gates) and his lefty sidekick. but after a while, i realized, what they do is hard, but its the same stuff but just, not? haha, i dunno how to explain. sounds like power ranger solo's. then i started to like herman li. and then found out, they speed up what they play, so i realized i dont need a favorite! because every guitarist is better and different from everyone else. an i hope to be a role model and a favorite, one day.
My favs are Dave Murray, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, David Gilmour and so many others. Also Gwyn Ashton, an australian blues guitarist whom I`ve once seen live in Hamburg. It was awesome!
ive got quiet a few for a few reasons
Fredrik Åkesson + Mikael Akerfelt-Melodic amazingness his time with Opeth created some of my favorite music.
Steve Vai: just pure awsome
Joe Satriani- Manages to write alot of amazing music without overdoing the shred
Christian Andreu+Joe Duplantier- SOOO HEAVVYY!!!
John Petrucci- His Solo work is amazing and his AP is absolutly flawless!
I can't choose a favourite but some of my favs are Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page, Scott Ian, Eddie Van Halen, Gary Moore etc.
My favorites would be
Slash, Van Halen, Joe Satriani, SRV, Syn, Reb Beach, MAB, ......man it's hard to pick*i know i can't remember em all now but my all time fav which is pretty close would have to be \../ SLASH\../
The guitarist who impress me the most (even if i don't play flamenco..) is Paco De Lucia.
He's absolutely amazing..definitely my number one.
Andy timmons, Tony macalpine.
Edit:
Doh, and Muris ofc.
mine would have to be Kirk Hammet. Perfect blend of blues and metal.
My favourite guitarists are Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, Jimmi Hendrix and Ken (From L'arc en ciel, a J-Rock band)
in these days i´m in love with Kiko from Angra
In no particular order and for different reasons
Angus Young
Because I have been an AC/DC fan since the release of Back in Black and I really like his soloing and his presence on stage.
Malcolm Young
The ultimate rythmguitarist. He just rules
Ace Frehley
Ace Frehley may not (is not) the most technical guitarplayer, but I can pretty much hum every solo he did by heart. He has/had a way of writing solo's that stick in the head
Stevey Ray Vaughan
Mary had a little lamb intro was one of the first riffs I tried to learn when I started playing. Big source of inspiration.
Jimi Hendrix
I liked his songs since as far back as I can remember. I can think of no other guitarist where the guitar itself seem as much a part of his actual body as Jimi Hendrix.
Jerry C
It was Canon Rock that made me decide to (once again) try to learn the guitar, I really liked that tune. I have grown really tired of it now but as an inspiration I feel I need to mention him
Tommy Emmanuel
Acoustic guitar god. His "Lewis and Clark" is just breathtaking. I never heard another song with no vocals tell a story in the same way, simply amazing.
Mr. Mark Knopfler.
As I write I'm listening to Brothers in arms - On the night live version... dude, makes my hair punky...
Call me classic, but... Clapton, Bibiloni, Atkins, some Stern... but MK for ever!
Cheers!
EC
God, it is impossible to name just one person here, there are so many great players... David Gilmour, Michael Schenker, Zakk Wylde, Brian May, Mark Tremonti, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore, Toni Iommi and all the others I forgot to mention now
i forgot to mention Gus G of firewind
It's impossible to mention just one
Well, my all-time favourite is Gary Moore... But I can't go through a post like this without mentioning my other favourites as well : Jani Liimatainen, Elias Viljanen, Paul Gilbert, Eric Johnson, Gus G, Muris Varajic (), Marcus Siepen, André Olbrich...
And over to acoustic players: William Fitzsimmons, Andrew White, Peter Ciluzzi, Antoine Dufour, Matthew Santos, Andy Mckee, Don Ross....
And so many, many others on both lists, like all instructors of GMC I haven't mentioned ^^
Joe Satriani - Perfect melodic, and perfect speed. Good song-writer and composer. Awesome technique
Tom Morello - He showed me that it's not all about shredding and playing 100 km/h. Sound is _incredibly_ important!
Tommy Emmanuel - He is defiantly one of the best guitarist and musicians in the world! He's a performer and entertainer, and a master at both electric and acoustic guitar.
And Muris Varajic, he's just awesome! *suckup*
my favorites are:
Mick Thomson
Jim root
(both from slipknot )
Does someone know Robert Cray?..amazing blues guitarist ! Saw him once live as an opening act at a Clapton concert 2 years ago...I really loved it...even more than the actual Clapton gig, I don't know what the big deal about Clapton is anyway...I mean he is an awesome player but the most songs he did are pretty boring for me except the big hits like Layla, Tears in Heaven, Cocaine and stuff...
My Favorites are Mark Knopfler and Gary Moore ( and Muris of course )
Actually I am my the greatest guitarist, so I am my biggest fan... No just kidding, just wanted to bring that to your attention that a lot of great guitarist wannabees are pretty arrogant and self-convinced
I would have to say Slash, synyster gates, and paul gibert
In all honesty: Michael Amott, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani and Muris Varajic. And I'd pay thousands to be an apprentice to any one of those geniuses.
Eric Johnson, J. Petrucci, Andy Timmons.
Michael Ammot, but i also like steve vai too
David Gilmour, Lori Linstruth, Chad Coggin.
Ace Frehley, Joe Satriani, Slash, and Rick Nielson
Mark Knopfler, Scott Ian, Gary Moore, Joe Satriani
Different guitarists, different styles, all great
Mr. Radomir Mihailovich Tochak.
Buckethead, definitely...."Whitewash"
then john petrucci then tony macalpine
also thomas youngblood of kamelot
If you have a favourite guitarist, pls vote here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=24051
Difficult to list them all but Jeff Beck is one of my favourite .
Just now Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Andy Timmons, and Tommy Emmanuel.
The one's that are my favorite, that made a big impact on my whole playing in general, would be
Jason Becker, I think he's the greatest guitarist in the world...
And Shawn Lane, Takayoushi Ohmura, Satoshi Katada, Marty Friedman, Mamoru Goriku, Ry Cooder, SRV, Ryota Kogure, Haruhisa Naito.....
While certainly not the 'best' guitarist (how would one measure that objectively, anyway?), if a magical genie asked me which guitarists' skills I'd could copy 1:1, it'd definitely be John Frusciante. He's by far my favourite guitarist as much as Flea is my favourite bassist. Strangely, RHCP isn't my favourite band.
So, yeah. Frusciante. I wish I could have the chance to talk to him one day. Besides a great guitarist, he seems like a very interesting person and a very atypical rockstar.
Right now im on a bit of a Dimebag Darrell kick, but a lot of EVH too...i cant pick haha
Kind of hard to choose. Off the top of my head, I'd say the guys that stand out the most would be John Petrucci, Buckethead, Mikael Akerfeldt, Alexi Laiho, and Yngwie Malmsteen. On the reverse side, I've never really understood the appeal of Eric Clapton.
And some of the instructors on the videos here are just insane. One of the guys whose names is something like "Muris Vladimir" who did that "Canon in D" rock on youtube -- goddamn, that was awesome. I replayed it like 20 times in a row just to listen to it after finding it. That's actually what got me to sign up.
You just comitted an act of blasphemy, Peter
Don't worry, you'll get his name right with time
He's definetly one of my favorites as well!
If you wanna see some more of his awesome work, check out his http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-sizjxwUK8&fmt=18 and his http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/extreme-neo-classic/ lesson, which is one of the two only level 10 lessons here on the site (he has the other one as well, actually )
Oops, lol. Yeah, when I posted that and didn't know his name, I didn't realize how personalized everything is here. Students actually know the instructors and vice-versa, so apparently you guys knew exactly who I was talking about.
I did some more youtube-ing and saw he entered a shredder's contest. I seriously cannot believe he lost to that "Ed the Shred" guy.
I DEMAND A RECOUNT!
Andre Olbrich, John Petrucci, Arjen Lucassen, Heri Joensen, Mikeal Akerfeldt, Jeff Loomis.
Luca Turilli, Michael Romeo, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kiko Loureiro, André Olbrich
Alex Laiho, Dimebag Darrell, Steve Vai, Kirk Hammet....
I think I may be ignorant of technicalities or I may not have distinguished songs from guitar work.....but, I think this is my vote:
Johnny Ramone
Jack White
Buckethead
Neil Young (especially the needle and the damage done)
Greg Ginn!
In no particular order:
Scott Ian
Alex Skolnick
