The album came out today, Yesterday for the rest of the world - And I have just finished listening to it for the second time all the way through, And must say I am more than impressed. I knew the album would be good, Maiden always rise to the challenge. But this is album is alot more than I thought it would be. Guitars sound great, solos are awesome, the melodies are as catchy as ever, bass is bombastic and full on traditional Steve Harris, and the drums sound great (Nicko even does a bit of double bass!)

One thing I think most everyone will love about it is that there are so many hints to there older albums like Powerslave, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, The Number Of The Beast, and Somewhere In Time - while still sounding extremely fresh and new. This is not the sound of a band who has been around for more than 30 years, everything still feels new, the ideas are still creative, and the whole experience is much bigger than any of there previous album.

If you haven't picked it up or heard it, I am assuming you are being hostpitalized in such a way that prevents any free movement smile.gif

My favorites off The Final Frontier would have to be:

Satellite 15...The Final Frontier (Full version is amazing)
Mother Of Mercy
Coming Home
Starblind
The Talisman
When The Wild Wind Blows

But then again every song is truly awesome, so check it out! And if you have it, what do you think?

Thanks for the quick review, this is a great year for metal fans! My album collection is growing and growing and I am already creating a top ten of the year...I'll download the album from iTunes now and see if it is better than the Blind Guardian album.

Boy was I dissappointed by this record!!!
Even after listening to it a couple of times now I can still not find anything remarkable about the record - it just passes your ears and you forget about it - AND THAT'S WHAT A MAIDEN RECORD SHOULD NOT DO!

Steves Basswork is as amazing as ever and the drums aren't bad either but the guitarwork is just uninspired and boring... Lame riffs, standard progressions and no epic themes or great leads on the record mad.gif
What is extremely annoying is that the whole record seems so slow, it's like maiden in slow motion (maybe they are getting old) but all the songs seem not to exeed a certain midtempo which makes it quite boring to listen to...

Whatever your drinking.... STOP IT! laugh.gif

Dissapointed? It's strange, 'cause one of my friends (also a Maiden fan) said the same thing.
There was (in his opinion) no immediate hits or parts that made him love it, even after a few listen throughs..

I can't understand it to be hones, I loved it the first time I heard it.
I actually think it's one of their best albums (yes, you heard right), and I love them all biggrin.gif
Every song on the new album is great, and I can't stop listening to it.

Guitarwork is amazing too in my opinion, I love what they do on The Final Frontier.

Opinions are wonderful, don't you think laugh.gif

Thanks for the link - just watched the whole clip on YT.

I´m pretty sure that this is no movie - acting & SFX are far too cheesy! wink.gif

Whithout this video the cover of the album is not understandable (at last I could not understand it)!
Have to confess that I don´t like this cover at all. No Eddie (I refuse to take this illegitimate product of Alien and Predator as our Eddie), no connection to the lyrics of the album so far (have just listened to it once though).

Very strange indeed

So far this is my favorite Eddie. If you buy the "mission edition" of the CD you get access to a 25 minute or so interview with the band, And they talk about how they came up with this version of Eddie, Its pretty cool.

But then again, when you converge my two favorite things; space and and Iron Maiden - I am probably completely biased rolleyes.gif

And as for the music video, It was actually surprisngly well done I think. FX were pretty good and the guys acting wasn't bad at all. I mean it could have looked like the cover of Dance Of Death after all laugh.gif

How does this one compare to Brave New World? I thought that was a great album. New, but had the feel of old Maiden.

I have listened to it at least 15 times already. I will have to say if its not on par with Brave New World, It is better than it, I won't say which one I prefer, Cause I cant laugh.gif

I will simply say its by far one of there best, Maybe even the best. I havent quite decided it yet but it is just, awesome.

1. The Final Frontier/ Powerslave
2. Brave New World
3. The Final Frontier/ Powerslave

Those three easily make up my favorite Maiden albums. I would give everything to see The Thin Line Between Love And Hate performed live, that song is just killer!

I really think it´s great that different people view things differently! smile.gif
I´m still a bit sad that they switched the Demon Eddie for an Alien Eddie. The previous Eddie was like a brand for the band - easy recognizable! The new one will have a harder time to achieve this, as there are sooo many aliens/monsters around which look very similar.

Regarding the video: You are right of course: for a music video it was very well done. Acting was ok and SFX are quite above average. I was just referring to Azzaboi´s remark that it might be the soundtrack to a movie. And no matter how good the video was it would be "cheesy" for a movie! smile.gif

If you mean "A Matter of Life and Death" than you are referring to my all time favorite album of IM. smile.gif

ATM I listened to Final Frontier 5 times or so....maybe it grows on me but until now I´m not very enthusiastic. Pity really! mellow.gif

When I was in high school, I went to see Anthrax open for Iron Maiden in concert. I didn't have a ticket, so me and my friends went and bought them at the arena. WE GOT THE FRONT ROW!! The lady said the front was reserved for some corporates that never showed so they sold them last minute...and we got three of them! Nicko McBrain came to the front of the stage and handed me a used drumstick...I still have it today! It has his name printed on it in the traditional Iron Maiden font!

That's a funny coincidence, those are the exact same songs I preferred! I love the album. I can feel how Iron Maiden has developed their style over the years, trying out different themes, effects etc. I can even feel a close relation to the previous album A Matter of Life and Death which, although seemingly hated by some, is one of my all time favourites, because they manage to make very seducing clean intros that just pull you straight into a trance which then explodes with heavy harmony leads with amazing lyrics and vocals... This is the same feeling I got out of this album. A masterpiece.

I went to see them live in Bergen on the 11th of August and El Dorado was amazingly well performed... Of course the concert was great and I will never ever forget that night, but as I said: my opinion is that Iron Maiden has found a new sound which suits them a lot, and which suits me a lot. We've had masterpieces like The Number of the Beast, Dance of Death, Brave New World, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Powerslave, both the songs and albums. It's time for something a bit exotic, and naturally it might take some time to get used to it... smile.gif
