Great idea to start a topic about this Joe!

Here is what I think - but I am interested in hearing what everyone else thinks about this as well (we all have been students!)

I think you are missing to most valuable "extra" angle here, which is the one shot from above. The reason I consider this one valuable is because the student watches his own hands from above.

Also - I don't really see a purpose of having "Angle 1 Left Hand inside" and "Angle 2 Left hand Out" as they seem very similar to me.

So what I would consider most useful "extra" angles:

1 left hand from above

2 right hand from above

3 close up on left hand

4 close up on right hand

Close ups of left and right hand are the ones i like best to watch in videos, and i usually always include that. But i usually try to film it directly, and not at an angle (atleast for the left hand).

I'm constantly trying to figure out clever ways to get an "above" angle.. but it's not always an easy task to do with a webcam

Yes that's right - the above angles must be the absolute trickiest ones from what I understand!

Cool, now things are a bit more clear to me, inside and outside shots gives in my opinion different angle to see the little movement of the hand, and what is hided by the hand itself duo to perspective, specially were complex chords are used, anyway this is my point of view, I'd like to produce lessons with angles that you and users like most, so let's see what other members prefer also (I've started a topic similar to this in the normal forum)

So if I've understood it right, and I see some logic in it, is a close view from a spectator point of view (3 close up on left hand 4 close up on right hand) and a close view from the player point of view (1 left hand from above 2 right hand from above)

Am I right? Because I'll go for this as standard as long as other members requests and spot other point of view

Hey Joe what software are you using? I heard that it is possible to control two cameras in Vegas 8.

Same question for me here, how do you guys film those little extra shots, do you all really use 2 cameras and a software that can handle this or is there a way to film both shots individually, sync them and then insert one small frame into the big main one? Can anybody enlighten me please?

Marcus i think you need 2 cams if you want to do that. other wise you can do it with one cam but you have to do a 2 shots
and by software you can add picture on picture.

You can use Vegas for tricks like that i think. I'm still a noob with it, but it's got some really nifty and cool features that makes editing and adding fx/faders etc. alot easier.

I think I will check out Vegas then, I have my webcam twice, so maybe I can do stuff like that too

Hey Marcus, you can do with two cams, but you can also do it with one cam. For example I record my every picture-in-picture with one cam along with a metronome and them just sync it. It is not so difficult, because you don't need quality audio for both videos, just the left hand. But sometimes it is not possible (for me at least) to do it easily, like when the rhythm is syncopated too much. If it is straight notes it is most easiest to do it.

Also if you have two cams, try the new Vegas. I think you can sync two cameras with it.
