Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner's Corner 13: C Major Scale by Bear Rose
Thanks a lot for this lesson, Bear. It was fun to learn and my first challenge to RECord :D I'm new on GMC and expect to learn and practice a lot. I know guitar from a long time ago but never studied seriously. I'm glad to start this new path and challenge. My favorite style is hard rock, but I like a little metal and jazz as well. Cheers! -------------------- Begginer at GMC, passionate for music and guitar

Todd here! NICE IBBY!
![]() I didn't see anything that would make me not want to pass this. There are a couple of timing issues in the end that could be worked out but that's fairly minor. I think you did a fine job ! Solid 8 from me! Congrats! Original lesson: Beginner's Corner 13: C Major Scale by Bear Rose

Wow - very nice! Something tells me you have taken an important plunge with this REC take.
For this level 1 beginner lesson I am primarily looking at your posture, hand sync and timing. You have done a very good job - with only timing being the area where you can improve here. I wouldn't say I can spot any specific mistakes but with time you will get tighter overall (one example would be to listen at 00:10). Well done - you get an 8 from me! Also I think you should try to play with alternate picking from now on, even though it is not used in this lesson. It is a very important habit to consolidate whenever you are practicing at a slow tempo! |

Hi Oscar!! Welcome to GMC!!
Good job with this one mate! This is a great lesson to start. It's nice to see a beginner playing vibrato so good. Congrats mate. I only notice some very small timing issues around 00:23, and I also recommend you to get into alternate picking soon. ![]() Let me know if you need any help with your guitar plan! Hey there!
I really admire the fact you decided to go for something light but the fact it is light to play should give you lots of time and focus on some important details. To make 100% profit of any lesson, you need to make sure you do not leave anything to happen randomly. Simple lessons are great deal to workout some essential hand habits and layout. Why are you using middle finger instead of ring? Bear uses ring finger becasue it is much more natural fretting hand behavior for much more than just this few licks of this lesson. Always make sure you notice things like this because this is way these lesson are so simple - you can just focus on things around the few simple notes themselves. For the future also notice the pickign direction on each note. for this lesson it's not the case but somehow I feel like it would be mentioned at some of upcoming recs for harder lessons. Besides above I only notice very little timing issues and maybe not a studio level intonation but for a amateur this is a nice result and we're only wishing to help you squeeze even more out of yourself ![]() |
