Hey GMCers,

This lesson is a Fusion lesson, I called it Fast and Fusion because it contains 32th note runs. Don't be affraid of these runs, practice them slowly and it will come, if you find it difficult to do 32th note with a metronome, you can play 16th note and double the tempo. The tempo here is 90 bpm, so you can play 16th notes at 180 bpm it's the same thing.

Techniques that you can find in this lessons are alternate picking, two hand tappings and some whammy bar tricks.

The key is D Dorian, but I'm using some out notes too and chromatic licks.

I've included a loop playback, once you've learned the lesson, jam over the backing track and try to find your own licks.

Chord progression : Dm7 - Csus2 - Csus4/B - D
Tempo : 90 bpm

Hope you like my lesson, if you have any question, please don't hesitate to ask them.

Cheers,

Jad.

The first bar is a diminished arpeggio, followed by a Am sweep in the second bar. when finishing this video, you should put your right hand on the D string 5th fret, to prepare the next lick on next video.

This lick is full of tapping, on the second bar, I'm playing a tapping with two fingers, I'm using my middle finger for the 9th fret on the D string, then I'm doing a hammer on to the 10th fret (this time with the ring finger) and then a pull off to get back to the 9th fret. Then I'm doing a serie of slide tapping, I do a tapping on the 5th fret and slide up to the 7th fret.

On the first bar, I'm starting the lick by tapping the 12th fret on the B string. then doing a hammer on followed by a pull off to the 13th fret using my middle and ring fingers of my right hand. Then I'm doing a tapping again. This time I tap on the 12th fret and slide up to the 13th (with my middle finger) then doing a hammer on followed by a pull off to the 15th fret using my middle finger and my pinky.
While doing these tappings, it's important to keep holding your pick in order to play the shred run that follows. That's why we're doing the tappings mainly with the middle finger.
The shred run on the second bar is in the key of D dorian scale, and it's played with 32th notes. If you're not used to played 32th notes, you can practice them by playing 16th notes and doubling the tempo. In this case it means playing 16th note with a 180 tempo.
The shred runs ends with a tapped harminic, tapped harmonics consist touching slightly the note an octave above (12 frets above) on the same string of course. In our case, we end our shred run on the 5th fret, and we touch slightly the 17th fret (5+12=17) to make the tapped harmonic.
After the tapped harmonic, I'm doing a slide from the 5th fret to the 7th fret, notice that the slide still sound as a tapped harmonic.

This video contains lot of whammy bar tricks, it's difficult to describe how to do these screamming sounds, but I did a close up on using the whammy bar on video 10. Make sure to check it out.

This is a very jazzy lick, using the D minor arpeggio with some approximate notes.

The hole lick is in the key of D dorian, you can find a Dminor sweep in the second bar followed by full bend.

Really fast shred run, practice it slowly. I'm using 32th notes again, equivalent of 16th triplet at 180 bpm.

This is a laid back lick, after the shred run to announce the end of the solo. At the last note, I'm using my whammy bar as a bend (so if you don't have a whammy bar you can simply do a full bend) in order to reach the A note (7th fret on D string) wich is two frets above.

I'm using my whammy bar a lot in here, the first note is the same as a prebend release, to get back to the G note on the D string.
You can see at the end of this video some close ups to see some tips about the whammy bar.

PS: the video start with the last note of the previous video.

Hope you like my lesson.

Cheers,

Jad.

Cool playing, but I would have liked it even more with a wider vibrato. smile.gif
