Hey guys just wondering how can i practice relaxing my picking arm while doing really fast speedpicking.I know your supposed to be totally relaxed while playing to aviod straining something but i can't help but tense up when im playing something fast.

The key is to practice a lot at slower speeds - this trains your arm and body to play in a relaxed way. As you slowly increase in speed, you keep the relaxation.

It is simple, if you practice something relaxed for a 100 times, you can bet on it that the 101 time you'll play it relaxed too. So keep those muscles relaxed and you;ll be fine! smile.gif

Good one.

There are many famous players who are quite tense when doing speedpicking,
Petrucci or even Batio to name a few.
I mean their picking hand isn't that much relaxed as Malmsteen's per example.
Which leads to the conclusion that you can be less tense but hardly full relaxed
while playing ultra fast licks with picking.
And good suggestions above, first really slow and then up the tempo, but no hurry. smile.gif
