Compression-sustainer Options

Do any of you use a compression-sustainer pedal in your playing? I'm wondering how you use it and for what style of music. My feelings are mixed. I've played around with using the Boss CS-3 -- and on the plus side I find it can work almost like a volume pedal for clean solos and fattening up the tone. But the attack is almost too aggressive, regardless of adjustments -- and it doesn't seem to do that much in front of an overdrive or distortion pedal. Almost seems like an unnecessary distraction on the pedal board. Any thoughts?

i always use compression to record clean tracks, maybe a touch to make some john frusciante alike riffs, or a ton to make some michael jackson/funky guitar work.

sometimes also, when the project requires it, i use compression for a lead overdriven guitar, before the od pedal, it gives you a smoother tone (to my ears) and the tone wont get too distorted.

i think it's a nice adition to a pedal board, even so, i don't have one on mine, cause my music don't need it, but, i have two (alesis hardware) on my studio, and like 5 dif software ones AND guitar rig / amplitube ones.

I never use one live, but it's definitely a useful tool to have. You can do without it, but it's practical to have one for smoothing out the solo or some strumming for example.

Its a handy tool to have in your pedalboard...I've been looking to get one for my bass setup! Its same as with EQ. You can go without those pedals, but they offer a lot for more detailed control over your tone...
