Hey guys! Nowadays I'm paying a lot of more attention to lyrics in music than in the past. I really enjoy the complete piece of art and this makes me enjoy even more music styles.

Do you pay attention to lyrics?
Are lyrics important in the music that your here?
Which are your favourite songwriters?

Gabe, writing lyrics has never been my game until starting Aria and realizing I had something to say...from deep inside. I wrote the lyrics for our first 5 songs, being inspired from my life and I managed to express my inner self as I never did before... I guess before this moment, time hadn't really come for me smile.gif who knows...

For me Lyrics should paint a picture with words! Two of my favourites for being able to paint complete pictures with their words are Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen. There are many others in all genres but I'll use those two as most people will have heard of them!! wink.gif

to me,I love when the lyrics are cleverly devised to have different meanings , such as
"Big Balls" by ACDC, to me this song is the pinnacle and in this particular song gets dirtier the dirtier you are and if you are clean , it has a completly different message
Pound cake " Van Halen" is another good one

I like lyrics very much. i want to know what is being said. However, sometimes I prefer instrumentals written because it lets the listener derive his or her own meaning(s). I like inspiring lyrics. I like a lot of Christian Rock/Metal bands.

I just recently started really listening to lyrics of foreign bands.
I always enjoy a good story - lyrics that make me feel I'm experiencing it.

Lyrics are integral part of music and they need to be as good as the music.
It's always disappointing when I hear a cool tune with "stupid" lyrics smile.gif
Feels like a waste.

yeah, that's the most difficult thing. When you are writing your are opening your feelings, your soul to everybody so that could be difficult in the beginning.

yeah.. instrumental music is awesome. They sometimes add a tittle that suggests the meaning but the possibilities are infinite.

yes, I also feel disappointed. However I'm now discovering that there are many foreign band songs that I liked that also have incredible lyrics.

Yeah lyrics are extremely important for me too. I like unusual lyrics more so then straightforward ones.

Curious thing, I can write lyrics in English better then my own language. They sound better for singing as well, have better flow, and I found inspiration/new words for writing faster.

Speaking of lyrics - does anybody know if Red Seas Fire has lyrics for their songs anywhere? I can't find them. Perhaps they are not offered yet.

I wrote quite a bit of poetry a couple years ago. I don't anymore, but I would say that lyrics can be important.

To me, it depends on whether or not the band is trying to paint a picture lyrically. When "Yes" wrote their album, 'Close to The Edge' they didn't really care about what the lyrics meant. They were concentrating on how the individual words sounded. They were trying to use the vocal chords as more of an instrument than anything else.

TL;DR

The lyrics matter some of the time(to me).
