Hey Muris,

Hope you are well my friend, I have a quick question that Im sure you can help me with. 2 of my favourite guitarists are George Lynch and Yngwie Malmsteen, and I have spent a long time studying there playing and trying to take what they do and incorporate it into my own playing to give me a sort of Heavy, Pinch Harmonic Fuelled Neo-Classical Style. Now after getting a grip on what they do, I want to incorporate another technique into my playing, specifically the 2 handed tapping of Reb Beach. I have admired his playing for many years and he has been a favourite of mine since I first heard him, now I am wanting to include tapping, and not only tapping Reb Beach stuff, but using his techniques and gaining a similar sound but making it original and merging it with my own style, so hopefully in a few months I will be a Heavy, Pinch Harmonic Fuelled, Neo-Classical, Furious Tapping Guitarist. Do you have any advice/tips that I can use so that I can get to grips with this technique, and also how best to incorporate it into my own playing!!

Many thanks,
Iain!!

p.s. if anyone else has any tips or advice I would love to hear it!!

Hi Ian. smile.gif

What are you trying to accomplish here is hard task I must say.
Both Lynch and Malmsteen are players well knows by picking abilities,
which needs hours of practicing, like everything else in general.
And know adding 2 handed tapping stuff will take some practicing time
from your picking exercises routine.

So there are no many tips or advices here except to practice as much as possible.
But be aware not to leave any of these techniques behind.
Most of the players are mainly focused on just one or two techniques,
not every player but most of them.
Satch-Legato,Malmsteen-Picking,EVH-Tapping etc.

You'll find muting as biggest problem I guess,
when doing picking you have right hand over bridge to mute a lot.
And when doing 2 handed tapping you'll have to find another solution for muting,
smoother moves with your left hand, maybe even use of dampener etc.

As I said, pushing it too much into one direction will make it harder
to come back on the path,so do it wisely. smile.gif

Spoken by the man who has mastered just about every technique out there!

But I think that's the point - Muris you are such a good all rounder because you haven't neglected any of your techniques to concentrate on another!
