GMC Forum _ THEORY _ Notes Are Same But Position!

Posted by: Vinod Saranga Nov 13 2008, 02:21 AM

This is a basic you have to understand. There may be sevaral postions for one note in the fretboard. In sightreading you have to identify the note first, then you should identifiy where to play it.
The string on which note should be played is mentioned in a detailed notation whenever there may be a confusion.

Here is an example.
E note can be played on high E string (open note)
or on 2nd String (5th fret)

We have already covered first 3 frets area in the fretboard. You should now familiar with them.If not please revise your previouse drills.
Now we are going to play on 5th position of guitar.Fortunately we don't need to study all the notes.
We already know them. What we are going to do is practise same drills using our knowledge on these notes.

Here is the drill
 E,F & G notes in the 2nd string
You can see that notes in E string can be played on 2nd string by shifting the position by 5 frets to the right.

Take a carefull look.
then practise the following drill on 2nd string.
