Great Pedja.. This is what I am missing. As you know I haven't been able to watch any of your video chats properly. Sorry about that. I just wish I had access to better internet connection. It would be great if you can record a small example with all those time feels, perhaps next time you do a chat session?

Thanks,
Chandra

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 4 2010, 12:13 AM

Chandra I recorded it today for you in the video chat. Come on Skype and I will send it to you there - file is too big to upload here and to take GMC traffic space smile.gif

Posted by: maharzan Aug 4 2010, 01:17 AM

Oh, thats great. how big is the file? It might be too slow for me. Isn't is possible to upload over youtube?

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 4 2010, 08:37 AM

I will upload it on my ftp and send you a download link today smile.gif

Posted by: maharzan Aug 4 2010, 10:53 AM

Awesome Pedja. Thanks so much and sorry for the trouble.

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 4 2010, 01:31 PM

No problem Chandra. Hope you downloaded it and got useful info from it.

Hey Pedja,

Here is my first try. Just grabbed the jazzy drum loop (Addictive drums) and G/D7/C/G chord progression and then started jamming.. just a simple G major scale for a start. The first 2 bars/lines came after few jams but after that all were only one take. Bass done in one take.. lol.

Glad I am getting started but as you notice, its not that clean and sorry for the bad recording.. Its a quickie you know.. biggrin.gif

I need a lot more practice on this...

Thanks,
Chandra

Oh Yep, the video was very helpful indeed. I need to print these feels in my mind so it comes to the fingers easily. smile.gif

Thanks a bunch for the video.

Sounds great ! Exactly what I was looking from you. I heard more than half time in the whole take - there was regular time feel and some time a bit of double time. We said 1 time feel for each assignment smile.gif
I will accept this take as half time feel . Do the next one similar and it will be regular time feel! For double time feel you have to do more of active and fast rhythms only!

Good work Chandra!

Thanks Pedja. See I am so impatient.. biggrin.gif I did try few others before and felt it was way too boring. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 4 2010, 03:06 PM

Yeah I could hear that smile.gif But thats the beauty of assignment, one thing at the time approach.
You don't have to solo for 2-3 minutes, 16-32 bars is enough. My recommendation is the more you do it the better cause it makes you focus on specific things and then they start coming out in your playing!

Hey Pedja,

I was just scrolling around and I guess I will do these for RECs this month.

Probably both.

Way cool.. Thanks Pedja.. Actually i am thinking I will just do this lesson by ear. wink.gif

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 5 2010, 10:50 AM

Cool Chandra, look forward to it man! Lesson is directly related to what we are focusing on in August so thats great!

Posted by: maharzan Aug 14 2010, 08:30 AM

Hey Pedja,

Didn't do much this week.. all busy busy schedule, more work. sad.gif

Anyway, I just got some time and try your lesson. It was a quicky and the last bit could be better. I haven't done much tapping stuff so was kind of hard. smile.gif

and http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=36282 is the REC thread.

Thanks,
Chandra

Hi Chandra,

Rhythmically you did good with the lesson but tuning/intonation problem is still there. You can hear it in the very beginning of the lesson when you are doing bends. They sound off and thats because you are doing either 1) not bending correctly (which I doubt!) 2) guitar is off tune (which I am positive)
So thats my take on your take smile.gif I would great this one heard because of tuning, probably would barely pass it or not at all! I recommend doing another take, make sure that your guitar is in tune with the actual backing track 100% and then record the video.
Its shame really because this was great take but tuning problem took a lot and I mean a lot out of it!

Posted by: maharzan Aug 15 2010, 03:18 AM

hmm.. isn't this in standard tuning? I actually changed strings, fixed intonations and tuned before recording. smile.gif

Perhaps this guitar is just too old... 3rd string seems to be giving problems esp..

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 15 2010, 03:42 AM

If you did all that Chandra then its bending problem but it could also be guitar problem like you mentioned. Try recording it with a different guitar if possible.

Posted by: maharzan Aug 15 2010, 07:49 AM

I worked on the intonations again but I don't know the open strings and the 12th frets are tuning almost accurately. Sometimes it seems to be in tune sometimes it seems to be fluctuating. Perhaps the string action is a bit low. I will raise and see.. but even with the strings in tune hitting open A chord doesn't seems to be in tune.. arg, I have been spending so much time trying to fix.. not sure when this came up. I think the 2nd and 3rd strings are major problem. Others seem to sound fine.

Anyway, I will try another take and perhaps another guitar (LP which also might have intonations issue). I haven't played that guitar much. smile.gif

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 15 2010, 10:25 AM

If you happen to have a problem on the 2nd guitar as well I really recommend taking it to guitar technician to sort it all out.
I never really do those guitar things on my own. I want to change strings, clean them, wipe the guitar and keep it clean but when it comes to intonation or bigger problems I always take it to technician. I strongly recommend you do it. In Boston it costs 50+$ to take guitar in the shop (like Daddy's Junky Music or Guitar Center) and to have strings change, action adjusted and all the smaller things including intonation... I would assume the same price is around place you are at smile.gif

Hey Chandra just wondering about remaining assignments? Will you be able to complete them by 30th of August?

Posted by: maharzan Aug 27 2010, 05:51 AM

Hey Pedja,

I have been quite busy lately, unexpectedly getting too much work .. I will try them tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I seem to have passed the REC tho..

Anyway, if not, I will just call it one good MTP session. smile.gif

Thanks for everything Pedja. smile.gif

Chandra

Hey Chandra,

Thanks for this post. I have been busy and sick for last 4 days so I didn't check GMC much. I saw how they passed you on REC smile.gif As I said, you played right things but intonation/tuning is big issue in my opinion. I would pass you as well but not with 9, 10 but rather with 8 because of tuning smile.gif

How are you doing with other assignments? We got only couple days left, I hope that you can complete them!

Posted by: maharzan Aug 27 2010, 02:12 PM

Oh.. hope you are well now. I will try something tomorrow. smile.gif

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Aug 27 2010, 02:49 PM

Yeah thanks Chandra, I feel very good today, back to working strong smile.gif
Look forward to recordings tomorrow man.

I just recorded one.. Arrg.. I realy don't have the brain to grasp double timing immediately.. It just doesn't come. Probably I will take special lesson from you doing double time. I need to learn phrasing and memorize all of them. Can you teach me? smile.gif I will try one again and post.

Thanks.

Hey Chandra, post that double time recording would like to hear what you don't like so much about it. Thanks.

Hi Pedja,

This is kind of rush but I wish I could do better.. This is a 3-4 take record and is totally random. I will need your help moving the brain stuff into the hand. smile.gif

Hope they are okay.

Thanks,
Chandra

Hi Chandra,

1st thing is this regular time not double time. Tempo is quarter notes and you are playing eight notes mostly some halfs quarters and in some parts 8th note triplets. If you did solo with 16th notes and/or 8th note triplets that would sound like double time.
I suggest slowing down backing and then try to do those rhythms, it will sound much better then it does now.
Yes I am aware, its not perfect melody choice and rhythm but its a start wink.gif

Posted by: maharzan Aug 27 2010, 04:45 PM

I just can't upload another one... sad.gif

Oh yea.. Thats what I was wondering as well.. Double time in that backing will be super fast then.. smile.gif I will try lowering the tempo and see.. I will fail definitely. I don't think this is a good approach since I really don't know / have any phrasing work / combination.. I just know up down scale and a bit of 123, 234.345 stuff.. Shouldnt' I know this before trying to improvise? otherwise it really sounds boring as I do now. biggrin.gif

Posted by: maharzan Aug 28 2010, 06:54 AM

Okay Pedja.. dropped really down to 60bpm and tried...

Edit: forgot to mention, I changed the backing, used another beat and trying to play over just G chord.

Chandra my friend,

Thank you for completing all the work and for working hard for past 3 months. I really hope you improved a lot from chord lessons and that those improvising assignments came in handy for you.
Best of luck in future and keep in touch,

Pedja
