Alright Skennington, Besip and FrankW,
Who you guys picking? I have Silva beating Jackson. Mir beating Noguiera and Evans knocking out Griffin. Should be a good one!!

Wanderlei will smoke Jackson (I hope!) I lost all respect for that guy after he ran from the cops in his truck and crashed into a bunch of cars...one of which contained a pregnant woman who miscarried! I think Noguiera will beat Mir. Mir just isn't the same after his accident. I have learned never to count Griffin out so I think he does stand a good chance...but Evans is just nasty!

Posted by: inertia Dec 24 2008, 03:29 AM

Yes, no and yes. Silva by devastating knees because Rampage still can't defend the thai clinch; I can't see how Mir could win, Nog has better standup and ground game, Nog will take it easy IMO; and I think you're right on Evans, Forrest got lucky with Rampage and his chin is a bit suspect, Jardine knocked him out and Jardine isn't known for his devastating power.
Sorry to hijack the thread, I've been an MMA fan for about 6 years watching Pride/UFC/Heroes etc

I didn't hear about the Jackson incident, that is pretty crappy. You probably see alot of sad stuff in your line of work Praetorian. I agree with you on Griffin, he just seems to be able to take an enormous amount of punishment. Evans has had some NASTY knockouts lately though!!

It was in California...right after he lost to Griffin. That Liddell knock out by Evans was one of the hardest I have ever seen! ohmy.gif

I'm with you Monte on all but the Rashad/Forest fight. Rashad definitely has the power to knock Forest out, but let's not forget the fight between he and Bisping. Rahad ruled the ground but Michael was able to pass and get up. I think forest will present the same problems on the ground but, IMO, has a much better stand up.

I'm going with Forest.... biggrin.gif

Posted by: rokchik Dec 24 2008, 04:00 AM

Wanderlei - as history shows he has Jackson's number. Also Jackson right now doesn't seem to be in a good place mentally, if the fight had been scheduled a few months ago I may have chosen different but my money is on Silva for this one... maybe some more highlight reel knees smile.gif

Noguiera - I don't think Mir is back as good as everyone seems to think he is and I just think Noguiera is smarter and a better fighter at this point... also Mir has to contend with the "Fight Magazine" curse laugh.gif

as for Evans and Griffin it could go either way. Griffin is a tough bugger and can take a beating but he has been knocked out before, and Evans has shown he can knock a brother out! But Griffin is no fluke and he has some skill... not to mention that don't know when to quit attitude. This may get him in trouble but I think he's gonna retain the belt. Also I just hate that pinch the nipple thing Evans does... it's just weird.

laugh.gif I agree! I saw him interviewed about it...he said his trainer has him do that right before he fights to increase his sensitivity and awareness. GSP does it too lately I have noticed. Evans said his trainer has him doing all kinds of weird things. Like standing in the shower and forcing your eyes open to the water coming out of the showerhead. He said it trains you not to close your eyes when a punch is coming. Who knows!

Posted by: besip Dec 24 2008, 06:13 AM

I"M belive Jackson Finaly beat Silva...I'm see Jackson on Ficht with Griffin and he looks to me like slightly winner..i'm Realy like how he eat the painfuell leg kicks from griffin smile.gif

On case of Nogiera -MIR..here i'm slightly to Nogiera....specialy if Nogiera survive 1 round

and last more difficult Faith to chose for me...is Griffin-Evans
Evans is beast and he's undefeatable yet...Hi's Ko Chuck was amazing but i'm belive he never has oponet with so strong jaw biggrin.gif lot of guys punching and Kicking Forest face but he's still faith and never give up....so If Forest be able eat 1 clean bomb from Rhasad..He will won..Becouse Rhasad never was on so bad situaction like Forest and if Forrest Give him some trouble Rhasad will get upset for Punching Forrest with no Damage on Forrest mind...yeah they maybe Train Rhasad for this...but real Ficht is reall ficht

so Slightly here for Forrest smile.gif

so my Pick->to won
Jackson 75% to Silva 35%
Nogiera 55% to Mir 45%
Forrest 51% to Evans 49%

those last 2 faiths is verry dificuel to chose for me but i'm belive on the 1 faith Jackson will beat silva..He can't lose 3 times biggrin.gif

1-more thing why i'm slightly chose Forrest...i'm made the choise yestrday when i'm was see match Evans-Bispin
thats was close match and Bispin is also Guy with Good Chin...but i'm belive Forrest chin is mutch better like Bispin biggrin.gif

Posted by: FrankW Dec 24 2008, 06:40 AM

Silva should beat Jackson. He's on a roll. He's in a better place mentally. I also think Mir will beat Noguiera. Mir is surprisingly quick and agile at 255. He has a better ground game than Noguiera, in my opinion. I also think he is the stronger of the two.
The last one is a tough call. Evans has proven himself to be really good. I wouldn't place too much credit on him for knocking out Chuck, though. I think Chuck is on his way to retirement, and just got caught with a good punch. Forrest is amazingly tough. I honestly think he'll take the fight. He's a smart fighter, and I'm sure he's been studying Rashaad. His mental toughness coupled with his striking and ground skills should do it for him. Rashaad is really good, though. I still think Forrest takes it.

Posted by: audiopaal Dec 24 2008, 02:13 PM

I think Jackson wins, although I'm rooting for Silva...
Nogueira will beat Mir and Griffin beats Evans smile.gif

Man I'm looking forward to this event biggrin.gif

Posted by: PanicProne Dec 24 2008, 02:53 PM

I'm with audiopaal except I think Wanderlei will crush Rampage. Gotta love Jacksons entrances though. What a showman!

Arlovski hasn't been the same since he got KO'd by Tim Sylvia. Very tentative now, like he is afraid to get knocked out again. Weird.

Ok, here we go...first fight is starting - Cheick Kongo vs. Mustapha Al Turk. Big unknown this Al Turk guy is...he is a big dude! Kongo is huge though!

Man...that round took forever!!! Pretty uneventful besides them stopping TWICE for low knees to the groin. One by each of them. But then Kongo dropped Al Turk with a punch and PUMMELED him on the ground splitting open his forehead badly! Ref stopped it then. Fight goes to Kongo 4:37 in!

Posted by: lcsdds Dec 28 2008, 03:54 AM

Kongo has finally learned some takedown defense laugh.gif laugh.gif That dude just put on a brutal display of ground and pound. Good fight!!

Posted by: skennington Dec 28 2008, 04:02 AM

Thanks guys.. smile.gif I had high hopes for Kongo when he entered the UFC but thought he was to one dimensional..Kinda the way I feel about Ryan Bader..Hope he trains the stand up and can go far. I really like this kid. smile.gif

CB, here's another one I dislike due to his "nobody is better than me" attitude . I wish Dana would put him and Junie Browning in their for 5 rounds and let them just beat the heck out of each other.. laugh.gif I WOULD pay for that one!

He took THIRTEEN brutal shots before the ref stopped it!! Evans has skills but he showboats too much!! I really thought Griffin was gonna do it even though I picked Rashad. Griffin looked great the first 2 rounds.

Steve Mazzagatti is the worst ref I have ever seen. He lets fights go too long when someone is clearly out...he doesn't penalize when he should...he penalizes when he shouldn't...he is terrible.

Totally agree. Jackson took a couple of cheap shots on Silva when he was clearly out as well....

Overall it was a great event. Lots of action!!!

Thanks guys for the play-by-play updates. I must say I was really pulling for Forest in this fight. Never forgetting about Rashad as as I think he is a good fighter, now I guess great, just always liked the way Forest has battled his way to the top.

As far as Mazzagatti, he is a bit out to lunch some times, but if big John is not available, I prefer him over Herb Dean. It's all a judgment call.

Thanks again guys! smile.gif

NOW, GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif

It didn't go at all the way I thought it would. What the hell do I know? You guys know how it is, anybody can be taken out with one good shot to the jaw. I was also suprised that Mir won on his feet. Go figure. Now he'll have to face the beast again...good luck with that! Thanks for the updates, Praetorian and Icsdds.

Very interesting PPV. We watched it last night at my house with about 15-20 friends.

Mir really impressed me I must say. I didn't really expect much from him to be honest but I was impressed at how he never jumped on Nog when he got him down, knowing he wasn't gonna KO him, very smart. Let him stand up and kept with the stand up game. And his boxing is much improved since before his accident... at least I thought anyways. He was very patient and Nog just didn't do anything.

Jackson, in my opinion, got lucky. That punch looked pretty blind to me and I don't think either fighter saw it coming. He looked a bit better then I thought he would but I still think he dodged a big bullet... great punch though Silva had no clue where he was after. Great punch but still lucky.

Griffin, man I don't know. To me all fight it's like he trouble breathing or something. Evans played the same game he did with Liddell and again it payed off. And I agree... Griffin was tapping not flayling. Evans made him eat a lot of leather. Not very happy with that result as I really do not like Evans... and that show boating after Griffin punched him in the face a few times was just uncalled for imo.

Now any predictions for St. Pierre - Penn....

@ Rok:
I don't like Evans either, the way he carries himself is not my style..

Penn all the way biggrin.gif
How about you? smile.gif

I haven't liked Evans since he was on TUF, but there is no denying his skills. He has had some of the most BRUTAL KO's on tape. Salmon, Liddell, etc... I really thought Griffin was gonna wear him down... Mir and Nog really surprised me, I thought for sure that fight would end in a submission by somebody, very good gamplan from Mir. GSP is gonna beat Penn methinks..

Yeah Evans is a little to big for his britches imo. Yes he's good but there are a lot of good fighters with a lot more respect out there. I really want someone to school him and knock him back a few pegs.

I just realized I never put in my prediction biggrin.gif

When they fought before, Penn beat up on Georges pretty good. There was no clear cut winner but Penn did have a bit of an edge I think. However they have both come along way from those days, and both have improved so much. St. Pierre seems to improve every fight and you know he's gonna be ready for Penn in this one. But Penn is gonna be ready too and he seems to have a little bit more to prove here. Tough call, and both are more then capable to beat each other up so I'm just gonna go with St. Pierre since he's one of my favourites. It's not going to be an easy fight for either guy, and it won't surprise me at all if it goes to another decision. It's gonna be a good one smile.gif

I'm going with GSP. Although my record has not been great as of late. laugh.gif BJ looked really good against Sherk but I think GSP will be to elusive for him.

GSP without a doubt. That guy isn't even human! Plus I hate BJ Penn. He is a punk when he is out in public.

This event really shocked me...I think Big Nog and Silva have taken one too many beatings, especially Silva, he doesn't have a good chin anymore, starting when Mirko knocked him out.
Who knew Mir had good standup, I sure didn't, I think Herb could have let the fight go on a bit longer but either way, the better fighter one. 1 year ago the outcome would have been different, but Frank has really stepped and has gotten his act together mentally and has actually committed to training and dieting, good for him.
As for Rashad, I knew he would win. He has an iron chin, great cardio, and really heavy hands, his ground and pound is vicious. Concerning his showboating, it doesn't bother me because he backs it up, when forest clocked him and he did that little maneuver I jumped out of my chair haha, what a great fight, Forest was all class, but in the end Forrest has had some really lucky breaks IMO on his way to that title, getting a gift of a decision against a mentally unstable Rampage and fighting Shogun who fought with one leg and consequently no cardio and hasn't fought since due to surgeries on his knees.
I think Rashad will likely face Lyoto Machida next, and Machida is very elusive, i think Machida would take it by decision, a boring fight because most of machida's fights are pretty unexciting.
