GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ To Late To Learn? =)

Posted by: OldManPete Jun 1 2008, 06:59 PM

Hello GMC, i´m a 40 year old guy from sweden who just bought a guitar and amplifier and i signed up to get some help and inspiration during my quest to learn to play that beautiful 6 string.. I am totally clueless when it comes to guitars, chords and scales, but i really love the electric guitar as a instrument and i really want to learn to play it.

My favourite guitarists include Gary Moore (he was my first guitar-hero) Yngwie Malmsteen, Jeff Waters, George Lynch, Dave Mustaine (really underrated guitarist/writer) and Eddie Van Halen.

Now you know roughly what kind of rockmusic i am inspired by, i am not aiming to be as good as the above mentioned ones, but i am going to try to become a descent rhythmguitar player that can write some own stuff.

See you all on the forums and prepare yourself for many questions smile.gif

I started with MrDahls powerchord lessons today, it´s really good stuff and somewhat painfull to, my fingers are like babyfingers, so soft and weak, but it´s great fun. biggrin.gif

Yeah, I think it is too late...not! I'm 52 and still learning. Be patient and let these guys teach you. You are lucky to have an outlet like this to help. I never had anything like this when I started. Hell, there weren't even home computers back when I started! Give your fingers a week, and they'll be tough enough. Good luck!

Heck, you're still young. I just started with my guitar on April 26 of this year, and I am 51!

Thanks to GMC, I already know more about the guitar than I ever dreamed I could, and I'm happily playing my E minor pentatonic boxes from open E to fret #22,, and managing a pleasant play-along with some backing tracks on here.

So welcome and see you on the boards!

Posted by: sidewas lightning Jun 17 2008, 01:21 PM

I'd have a real reply to this, except everybody has already said never too late, hi, welcome, etc, etc, etc. So I'll say something completely different!!!!!

Munch on some crackers and try to keep your strings in tune. Was that random enough? tongue.gif

Hi oldman from Sweden (inte fan är du för gammal inte! Jag är snart 33!)

I started to play guitar about 1 year ago. I had played some bass earlier but not muchl. I started watching
the free ones here but pretty quick I became a member. Start off easy... do simple lessons but try
also the more difficult ones because that's how you get better. It's also very important to JUST JAM and don't
try lessons all the time... Use Addictive drums or EZDrummer and loop a 1-4 bar rock groove and just play around.
Some shiny day you will start to know your way around and hit really cool notes.. smile.gif
I practice pretty hard, I play mostly metal, rock and blues... Don't mind the scales and chords for starters...
Just play, have fun and concentrate on playing... more than on theory. (don't hate me instructors!)
Theory come in 2nd place for me... all the time. I still don't know a single chord on the guitar honest but I
can play pretty good after one year... wow, this post got way bigger than jag hade tänkt från början! Hahahaha!

Ses!

Jonas...

PS. Jo, så här låter jag idag på guran, detta är min senaste låt:

48 here OldManPete. Yeah, if GMC and the interenet had been around the first time I tried the guitar, I can't imagine where I'd be now. Last night I was amazing myself, LOL laugh.gif, at how far I've come in just a few weeks here. You came to the right place. You'll start getting some tough littles pads on your fingers shortly. wink.gif

Welcome!
