I think this is my next one after I pay off my GT10.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-SG-Pr...622-i1386472.gc

I have never owned a epiphone but I love the SG look. I just don't have the 1600+ for the gibson one.
This one is a good compromise I think?

Thoughts anyone?

I bet that's an awesome guitar.

I have an epiphone and a Gibson SG, just love SGs, and that one is really making me think of getting a third one!. I love its look, the EMGs, and the extra frets. That has to be a glorious guitar for sure.

That is a GORGEOUS guitar...and I usually don't like SG's! It has the magic combo that I am looking for in my next guitar...fixed bridge and EMG 81 / 85. You just pointed out a real option for me!

Played that exact model and it's great! Especially for the price, you get anew developed slim neck with 24 frets which is quite uncommon for Gibson/Epiphone guitars and it also helps making the head less heavy. The hardware is good, the wood is ok, the craftmanship is very good and the Pickups are Top notch: This little beast screams like I've only heard a few high end superstrats scream which makes this SG great for leads!

-The wood quality is not the best (it's not a Gibson) so it does not have a lot of low end
-This is a METAL guitar so don't expect any vintage Gibson SG sounds, it sounds very modern...

...but in a good way. Definitely a great guitar (the best from the Prophecy-series) and well worth twice the price it actually costs!

That's a great guitar IMO, just replace the pickups to GIbson originals and you're in business. smile.gif

Depends on what sound you want:

Get the blue/blackish one with emgs for metal

or

the red one with Gibson Dirty Finger Humbuckers for Blues/Rock

That Epiphone is a beauty! Epi's are cheap, but i would say that the quality is usually way better than the pricetag will indicate. I've played quite a few Epiphones and while they arent exactly up to a "real" Gibson, they are still great.

As allready mentioned, the pickups are usually the worst part of them. But change them, and you have a great guitar.

I think it's already been stated but there's a big difference between the EX and the other one, namely one has active EMGs and the other has coil tap with the dirty fingers
The prophecy SG is a really nice guitar, not as neck heavy as the gibson ones and the other epiphone ones, plus you get 24 frets with pretty good access and a super fast neck with ebony fingerboard, you can't go wrong with either one
