Trust me,you can. smile.gif
My girlfriend has really small hand and she plays with thumb on classical guitar, nylon string.
Using of thumb is really great tool but needs practicing just like everything else.
Give it some time and you will NOT regret. smile.gif

You could practice some Hendrix, he used his thumb for the bass note often.

and just practice some bar chords using your thumb on the E string, seems a bit strange to begin with and I found the thumb getting a little sore (mainly due to a slight nick I had in it from work sad.gif ) but it didnt take long after lots and lots of practice smile.gif
