hey muris,
i started your evh lesson ( btw. very nice one smile.gif ) and got stucked with the harmonics.
when i do them i play a note for example a C on the A string in the third fret ( i dont play it i just fret it) and then i make a tapping one octave higher. i dont do the usually tapping with hammer on and pull off i just hammer on the octave C while pushing down the other C right?
is it right that i have to tap on the tie bar, so the metal part of the fret ( i hope tie bar is the right word for it ohmy.gif) )? this way i get a better tone, i cant see it in your video that good, that's why im asking you!

cheers

Not sure if I got hammer and pull part correctly but yes,
you need to tap directly ON/ABOVE metal part(fret) for tapped harmonic. smile.gif

yeah i mean when you tap you do a hammer on and you lift your finger directly after that without a pull off by releasing the string.
so tapped harmonics make only sense when the octave is played simultaneous right?

hey no problem i think i got it because it sound good now like in your video biggrin.gif
i dont have a cam at the moment so i cant record it, but it should be right now!
sorry if i annoy you but another question:
"And last 4 harmonics have bit different structure.
It's like you're playing natural harmonics on 12th,7th,5th and 3rd fret.
Only thing that G note on 5th fret on D string is our "open" string.
So we tap 17th,12th,10th and 9th fret instead."

i dont get the whole content of this part. when i play my open d the natural harmonics on the 12th,7th,5th and 3rd fret sound best right? but why does this explicit notes sound best( i mean its good that they do im just searching for a reason smile.gif )? then you use the g on the 5th fret and the good sounding harmonics move 5 frets up right? so its 17(12+5), 12(7+5), 10(5+5) and 9 ( but why nine? it should be 8!! -> 5+3=8 o.O ) .. 9 sound best but why nine now?
thanks for your patience biggrin.gif

As you can see, most typical places for natural harmonics are 12th,7th,5th and 4th frets,
and for tapped harmonics we use the same relations between fretted and tapped notes.
Of course there are harmonics on 9th,3rd frets etc but they are not so easy to get,
specially not if we tap them. smile.gif

I'm afraid it's a lot more acoustic science matter, not only guitar technique topic.
And since my english truly isn't that great (technical vocabulary wise) I'll have to pass this. sad.gif

What's important to you is to remember where they are and to use them properly,
natural, pinch, artificial and tapped harmonics (hope I didn't miss some). smile.gif
