I never tried olive oil or fast fret on the strings but if I were to test it I'd go for olive oil. Seem nicer to me to use a natural product and I'd even dare to play with my tounge or teeth knowing the strings are prepared with an oil that's said to be good for ones heart.

Healthy rocking!!!

Just read my mind,I have small bottle of lemon oil
which I use to refill Fast Fret here and there. wink.gif

I use both Tone Finger Ease by Chem-pak,inc from W. Virginia and also Fast Fret. A friend of mine who is in his 50's and use to be a studio pro guitarist, just advised me best not to get hook on any of them, but Finger ease was his preference.

I'm not into it becouse of being able to "play faster" ....I don't even like grease feeling..But it cleans my strings superbly and saves me a lot of money (and good tone) .. wink.gif

Thanks for pointing to Finger ease , I'll look into it..Does it clean strings also ? wink.gif

Olive oil will go rancid over time, but many luthiers swear by it. Light mineral oil is the ingredient in lemon oil, orange oil, etc, they are just scented mineral oil. My luthier swears by light mineral oil, and I have to agree, my fretboard has looked great since he used that almost a year ago.
