The costs of it should be listed on their main site, and lots of students have come from there to do great things in music. As you have mentioned Gilbert but another big name is Frank Gambale who also shared a room with the founder of the Guitar Insitute in London.George Lynch also went there after he was famous for lessons! They have had some great instructors too with Joey Taffola and Brett Garsed coming to mind amongst the many big names who have taught there

Is it worth it?Depends on what you put into it-If you knuckle down and realy get into it then Yes as it will create a broad spectrum of styles for you to play over and a firm understanding of theory

If on the other hand you already have a great intructor who can teach you everything, then IMO you wouldnt need to devote the time and money to the long courses.Of course you wouldnt get a diploma but thats not needed when you can pick up your intrument and let that tell people how good you are

I spent a year full time in London doing it,and it was fun-But now days with the internet and lessons available it is not the only option. You can even get private webcam lessons from Greg Howe these days, for not a lot of money

Have a good look at your options and note the pros and cons of these schools, and if you can aford it it will help you on your musical path with a lot of fun to be had too:) ALways great to hang around with other guitarists and see how they do things

Like Noangels said, MI (more popular called GIT or Guitar Institue of Technology) used to be a famous school 10-15 years ago. Teachers who used to work there were Paul Gilbert, Jennifer Batten, Frank Gambale and many other famous names... One of my Teachers from Guitar Institute in London (Ian Scott) studied there... All of them left and the only famous name they have is Scott Henderson. He teaches only when he has time and getting a lot of money for that just to keep the school popular. I am sure that 1 year is not less than $15.000 and you won't learn how to play like those big names for only one year and for that money. I have done 3 years degree in London for £16.500 which is $33.000. I had to pay that much because Bosnia is not in the EU. I can't say I learned nothing but I am pretty much playing what I used to know and what I learned myself. The benefit of my school is that I now have BA degree and I can easily find a job if I want to teach. I am not sure if you can get university degree at MI or they have 1 year diploma only. With that diploma you can only frame it and put on your wall for your satisfaction when you want to look at it. For that money you can learn a lot more if you take some proper private lessons and invest in some good equipment. You can also buy all the books they use for about $150-200. If you want my oppinion, I wouldn't go there.

I feel that the benefit of going to those schools is to network, meet people to find yourself more opportunities, but becoming good at guitar is up to you. 1 year of studying with awesome teachers won't make you awesome, you can only make yourself awesome.

Very interesting Emir, I'd be curious to know what texts they use. I prefer to study at my own pace, maybe I could pick those books up....

I agree with Jose and Emir,
it's fully up to you are you gonna be good player like those
guys who studied or teach there.
You can eventually get a degree and be able to
teach legally in registered private school or at university etc.
And schools like MI really cost a fortune...

It's good thing to hang out at uni cause it's full of interesting people and musicians, so you can make good contacts for the future if you are persistent enough, that's also one of the good things with it.

Yeah. University is great for meeting like-minded people that you'll know for the rest of your life. It's great to get a degree sure but university makes you grow up and socialise with people. It's a great experience smile.gif
