One of my local bars has started selling Guinness and to celebrate I'm teaching a few locals 'Fields of Athenry' I must play them the Dropkick Murphys version of it cool.gif biggrin.gif. Be cool to have them all sing it when we play and beat England biggrin.gif . That and Amhán Na bhFiann - though they can't understand my Irish for some reason wink.gif rolleyes.gif

The Dropkick Murphy's version is amazing... learning it myself smile.gif I'm also learning Sally Maclenane by The Pogues. I'm attempting to learn Gaelic, however all I've managed so far is a few "choice" phrases LOL!!!

for those who have never heard "Fields of Athenry" by the Dropkick Murphy's

@ Sensible Jones - ain't it funny how celtic music brings folks together in a "social" setting wink.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif We should use it to end world war... get everyone a pint and start blasting the jigs and reels, everyone will be laughing and dancing in no time smile.gif

I really like a singer/songrwriter Heather Dale. Some great songs, for example Mordred's Lullaby.

If it helps Rok here. Don't use the links in the table (they don't seem to work for me) - use the drop down box at the top of the screen smile.gif .

I had to learn my Irish (a little different to Gaelic) years ago and struggled to pass tbh so best of luck. I've since forgotten an awful lot; funny though that I can remember how to swear and a few songs like Amhán Na bhFiann/the Soldier's Song wink.gif .

***NOTE***

Hey GMC'ers in light of Lian's amazing Celtic guitar lesson series I thought I'd rehash this old thread. Been quite a few new members since I did this so it may be new to some. Hopefully you find it useful and please feel free to suggest bands I may have missed as I am sure there are A LOT!! I am still adding some myself but it has been a while since I've looked at this thread. I will add more "samples" and more bands as well as I get time.

Slainte!

rok

PS: Thank you Lian for introducing me to Na Fianna. Great band from Argentina!!
