as for speculation as to which console is going to "win". Right now, signs clearly point to the 360, but that's not to say a couple heavy hitting titles and another price rollback can't counter that on the PS3's part.

If you look at last gen, the PS2 was the dog, it had inferior processing capability in the arms race BUT it came out a year earlier. While there were absolutely no decent titles for about the first year and a half of the PS2, they eventually came, and came often. I don't think anyone will argue with you if you declared that PS2 was the winner of the last console war. Xbox and Nintendo were late to market. Nintendo tried to innovate and managed to do so at the expense of alienation of a lot of the gaming population (that controller, blech, yes I owned 2 game cubes, and still, blech).

Fast forward to the next gen. 360 comes out over a year ago while PS3 and Wii hit later on. That said, Wii is blowing the other two away since it didn't even really try to compete on the same types of games like it did in the last iteration. It's definitely THE party console and has outsold the other two by a landslide (and it's still much cheaper). Who's going to finish in the number 2 spot? My guess is Xbox, it's still outselling PS3 and Sony's hype machine really hasn't got the ball rolling quite like it should have. Microsoft is continually snatching up developers through amazing support. Major League Gaming (lame, I know)has picked Halo 3 to be it's next console shooter. You can bet it will pick up the new Smash Brothers title as well.

That all said, I'd be surprised if PS3 over turns 360's lead simply because it has superior hardware. What if HDDVD is chosen as the next great thing then those blu-ray discs become less available and games go up in price? Not a guarantee but 360 is a good old fashioned regular DVD.

So far the two "must have" titles have fizzled on ps3 (Lair and Heavenly Sword)

I like the Xbox 360 it does have great games. Though Ps3 is still newer then the 360 so they don't have too many great games out. I might end up buying a Ps3 once the lower the $$$$ on it.

I'll just dig this up, and vote for the Xbox 360...

Actually considered getting the PS3 too, until I got a look into development on both of them (as one of those side projects that steal time from this place tongue.gif).

The PS3. Is. A. Nightmare. huh.gif It has a lot of potential, but I'm fearing more and more that this potential will never be fulfilled. The development ought to be easy enough, considering most of the development kit is non-proprietary and open source, and a programmer will know a lot of the technology beforehand.

I certainly prefer Sony's choice of development model in this way. But debugging (i.e. "fixing problems") is an insanely complex task on a piece of hardware like this.

"Ideally", 50% of the time spent on a project for the PS3 would be spent on trying to make the final game actually work. That's "ideally" as in, "if we don't want problems with the game, or inferior quality", not "ideally" as in, "that's how it should be".

Of course, actually getting the full development kit for creating a game still costs quite a bit - sadly, Sony had to drop the price of that 50% recently, because not enough companies are buying it. In other words, too few companies are actually developing anything for the PS3 at the moment. It's simply too much of a risk, since the complexity means more bugs when the title is released - if it's ever released, that is.

Again, this is not the developer support department at SCEA's fault - they're doing everything they can to cater to the developer. The PS3 is just a piece of problematic hardware. Obviously in terms of "more advanced" but also in terms of "dubious design". They can't help that.

At the moment, the superior graphics and features compared to the Xbox 360 have been largely theoretical. In quite a few games, the PS3 version has been inferior to the X360 version. Not due to the X360 having more power, but simply due to it taking way too much time to wrench the power out of the PS3.

As for the problems with the Xbox 360 for end users, they certainly exist. I've never encountered them (had about 5 freezes in 2 years, nothing else). But problems are far from rare - but then, it's not hard to get that fixed. The X360 is certainly not the most advanced of the two, but as it looks right now, I'd be careful with buying the PS3 sad.gif

xbox 360 is definitely the way to go. its becoming more and more popular and theyve lowered the price again recently. its surpassed the wii in monthly sales now making it the best selling 'next gen' console. and that makes developers want to work with the 360 even more. and i dont think theres anything to worry about now as far as the red lights goes, since theyve extended the warranty and the newer consoles arent even affected by it. mines fromt he launch date and its only frozen twice since i had it, and that was when i played oblivion for like 10 hours straight. i just dont think ps3 can win now i mean theyve stripped so much away from it jsut to make it cost what a 360 did when it launched, its way harder to develop games for it, it doesnt have a console selling game like the xbox always has, and the perk of Xbox live is enough to sway anyones opinion.

XBOX 360 may have better online play, but once games like Metal Gear Solid 4: Sons Of Liberty, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XIII hit the shelves, PS3 Will be my number one system.

Unfortuneatly those games are far off, so i gotta wait... sad.gif
