To me, Neoclassical is rock/metal that is influenced by classical music (at least among guitarists). For example the harmonic minor & phrygian scale has a very classical sound/feel to it, so it's used very often in the neoclassical style. We also have certain "classical sounding" chord proggressions. Check out Muris first alternate picking lesson (awesome, btw
) it has a very nice "J.S. Bach-like" chord progression, so I'd label that as "Neoclassical".
This is the way I see it, but I'm sure there are many different views on this
. I'm open for a discussion!
