String Muting, any tips |

Hi,
I can do it, but in some songs I want to learn to play its like: 5 x x 5 5 5 x x 5 5 3 x x 3 3 Now I understand that you just touch the strings but dont push down (I think...) but I cant seem to get the nice scratchy tone/effect right. You can mute with both left and right hand. If you mute with the right hand you put half of your palm edge to the bridge and the other half on the string. That way you will hear the note but slightly muted. This is good for rock/metal playing, riffs especially but it's used in solos as well.
If you mute with the left hand like you said, that's good for chords. It should be a very quick strum and with the combination of non-muted strokes can produce nice groove/rhythm. Its more the left hand method ive been trying, but I supose yeh just more practise I just wasnt sure if I was missing something.
As for the right hand technique, I didnt know you could do that, but as its been described isnt that "palm muting" ? -------------------- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If I may add, try to find "sweet spot" with your finger to avoid harmonics,
that's most often in the middle of frets or even more closer to the fret on the left. It also depends of your tone, the more gain and treble you have the more harmonics will tend to come up.

It's a matter of combining the fretting & picking hand muting:
fretting hand: try to mute the strings away from the place where you cause a natural harmonic to be heard picking hand: with the side of your palm, try to brush the strings and prevent them from ringing. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

When muting with the left hand, should I be holding just over the string of the next note, or just hold anywhere on the guitar aslong as it doesnt have harmonics?
