By George I think he's got it! You've got a good handle on the picking and muting required by this lick. It's still obviously far from smooth and flowing, but that just takes repetition. The hard part is the part you have already completed. Playing the picking sequence without mistakes. The rest will come with time. You are playing properly and picking properly and muting properly. It's just a pinch stiff as you are still getting your brain wrapped around it as a cogent "thing". The really good news is that once you do get this burned in to your neurons it will open up an entirely new world of playing guitar. There are licks that just don't work well without being able to do this type of picking and there are many players that simply never take the time and make the effort to come to grips econ picking and as a result, they have serious limitations on what they are able to play.
I've learned as an instructor that I can't just notate the pick strikes for one loop of a given pattern, because folks may not be able to remember the strike pattern. So I"ll be putting in more pick notation for sure THanks for the heads up there! Keep at this one. It's a crucial part of being a well rounded player and you are not quite all the way comfy in it yet. However, you are playing the lick, keeping it in time, and muted, so you just...... LEVELED UP!!!!!!! Mucho Congrats and just in time for the new one on SATURDAY which is all about PINCH HARMONICS!! Thanks for your help Todd,
Up until last night I wasn't any better than my practise take above so I am quite pleased with this. It's a bit robotic but I'm sure in time as it gets internalised it will be more relaxed. What do you think? I'm amazed that it took to putting the pick strokes into GP file to manage it. Maybe you've learnt something as a teacher too? That would be cool. Oh, I don't come in on beat either https://youtu.be/vCGakjoJhNI This post has been edited by Todd Simpson: Jul 13 2018, 09:44 PM |

Thanks Todd,
I really wouldn't mind if you want to cancel my "badge up" and wait for a better take. I will really work on this, as I said I would have naturally picked that way back in the day. I've seen that instinct eat many players alive and spit them out as burned out husks. I was there last year mate, against Gab"s advice I ploughed on for months at one thing and was regressing. I still can't believe the leap forward putting the picking notation in gave me. I still can't understand why I forgot the picking pattern when I moved position. Its a very interesting but frustrating issue. I'll make this a part of my warm up for sure. Cheers buddy.
