I've found this question in another site and I thought that it would be interesting to discuss it here.

Some of the answers there were Ron Thal, Buckethead, Shawn Lane, Bireli Lagrene, Tommy Emanuelle, among others.

What do you think?

I always saw Ron Thal as the Punk Rock brother of Govan! I would say they are pretty much in similar terms command wise.
Musically different though.

It's a proven fact that guitar faces have a bigger impact on tone than wood does.

He certainly has an awesome command of the instrument. Also he does everything in a very unique sounding way. He doesn't sound like other players imho,
he always sound like Guthrie. There are wads of great players around, but he truly amazing. Something to aspire to no doubt smile.gif

Guthrie won Guitarist of the Year at Wembley, held by Guitarist Magazine, he beat my friend and one time guitar teacher Simon Lees, Simon won the competition the following year wink.gif

I'll try to share some while I'm on holiday, he isn't as "organic" as Guthrie smile.gif
