My producer buddy Matt Rowles is working on a new "record" with a local band called the Quiet Hounds and they are making the master VINYL @ a local shop called "Welcome To 1979" it's a local recording studio/mastering facility/Vinyl Master shop that uses ONLY retro gear. Nothing digital in the entire place
 I"m kidding. They have modern gear as well. They just focus on using TAPE. Yes, actual Magnetic Tape!!!We were talking about the emergence of Vinyl in another thread and I had to share this pic. This machine makes the master Record/Vinyl disc that other LP/Vinyl Discs are pressed from. Wow.  Anybody else going "retro" for recording/mixing/mastering? There are quite a lot of studios who have lathes and so can cut vinyl. You can actually buy new lathes from Neumann etc.
When I did my training as a mastering engineer way back I was taught how to set up a lathe and cut. We did a lot of dub plates so the oft repeated claims that vinyl couldn't handle bass frequencies is garbage - you just have to know how to set the cutting head properly. My studio is mainly analogue by the way. I still have and sometimes even use reel to reel if requested along with 2 and 4 track cassette, DAT and quite a few other sources. I thought abut tieing the r2r in via a CLASP but can't jusitify the cost at the moment but you never know.
