GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Reggae Soloing

My band introduced some reggae into our rep recently and I thought, three chords --what could be easier? But I found that when it came to soloing, I was really weak. My background in rock/blues isn't doing much for me in this genre. Does anyone have any tips/examples/links to lessons on playing an interesting reggae solo?

On the more serious side.. Try to experiment with single notes and funky rythms..

Great question!!! 
There are some lessons here that could help... just search them. The last post had a link... that's the best place to start. Also goggle syncopation guitar or reggae guitar. it sounds easy but the timing is the key. Also there is a real style to it, keeping it simple is part of the "style".

As far as reggae soloing, you can use regular pentatonic/minor scale licks to create a nice melody. I think with the wah pedal and some effects you can achieve great results, and don't be afraid to use very simple looped phrases - they can often sound more effective than complicated ones.

Try to stick to simple melodic phrases with a cool rhythm to them... Looping small phrases works well with this genre...Using effects like wah, phaser and similar adds to the flavor...

Hey.
Pentatonic will do very well on reggae, but the focus has to be more on very slow phrases with a strong melodical effect.
One of my favorite reggae solo guitarist is Kiko peres, who was previously part of brazilian reggae band Natiruts.
On his youtube channel there are some video lessons on his solos. Explanation is in portuguese, but you still can get a good idea on how to make an interesting reggae solo, cause he is playing a little slower with closed camera. Here I some examples. I hope this help:

Truly appreciated! Without a background explanation I can understand, it's actually better because it makes me focus on what he is playing, not saying.
